Bike Waxing

lol. I just waxed my new tri bike. Stay away from turtle wax. My experiences with it arent good. I just used Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. Worked quite nice. Have fun.

Right or wrong I wax my frames every re-build before re-assembly. I use anything that says “polly mirror” or “clear coat safe”. Be careful around graphics though.

Clear coat safe? You ust be referring to a cleaner-wax. I always use carnauba paste or non-cleaner liquid wax. I wax almost every other mud ride, sooner if i feel like it. It is not something that can be overdone, and more looks better😎

I have been using turtle brand liquid wax for years with no problems. As long as it is not a cleaner wax(one with polishing grit in it) there will be no problems on paint or decals.
In fact I have used non-cleaner wax on vintage decaled paint jobs to preserve the decals.

Wash your bike? Yep I've done that, about once in 1 1/2 years, :o wax? Sometimes, my car 😄
Meguiar's has worked great on my car I suppose it will work on the bike.

Meguairs makes some good products. We use almost all of thier paint care products at the car shop and some at the hangar(pilots do most of thier own polishing, so less there). They have some good customer service at shows too🙂

being roadies, we know only of leg waxing.
The best, Autoglym. A brit product, by appointment to HRM, ect.
this is what is used by Rolls & Bentley. Superglym as well.

yes, i am the same way...

i'll wipe the [censored] off my frame and wheels and brakes for safety then lube the chain and cables but thats it.

really cant remember ever washing my bike wath soap or water or wax...and this is because it takes ages, and i am really [censored] at time management so i am far too busy doin nothin and the moment i go back out on the bike its all manky again..whats the point?

people who maticulously wash thier bike and polish it and scrub it til is shines are just filling a massive emotional and personal void this thier life and really need to get a job and a girlfriend.

Or perhaps they just show a little more personal pride than you. 😄

My workbench stays pretty clean. I don't put my tools aways with [censored] all over them. No reason I should treat my bike any differently. You take care of your tools, they will last you a lifetime. Anything short of that is a waste. I learned that when I was about 7. 😉

whats this got to do with washing your bike?

i am a very tidy person, just not a complete neurotic.

a bit of dirt wont harm your bike frame or your reputation.

The same for my car, I don't worry too much about washing it but I give it good maintenance.
I'd rather take the chain, sprockets, cranks and give them a good cleaning and spend more time on it than washing the bike, besides water can get into all bearings and then you'll need to dry and lube everything. I've heard stories of frozen headsets or other bearings because they got a good wash just a couple of weeks ago 🙄

I put out a similar thread about 9 months ago. Someone recommended Pedro's
Bike Lust which is kind of a clear silicone like liquid that you spray on and then wipe right off. It's advantages are high shine and it helps keep mud and dirt from sticking well so they wash off easily. It also doesn't leave white chalk like dry wax around cables etc. I don't think that it protects as well as a good wax though. A buddy with a motorcycle tells me that Eagle One car products has a similar product for less money, but I haven't tried it.

In any event I'd keep any product away from discs or rims as you have already been cautioned about wax.

i use this stuff for quick cleanups about once or twice a week optigloss.usserious.htmlOpen ↗. if i get mud caked on then i wash it using light water pressure (no sprayer) so that water isnt forced into any bearings.
