My Vetta computer has a thermometer, but since it is sitting in the sun, it
can register 20 degrees to hot. I once got it up to 125F when the weather
man was saying 100F.

Automotive thermometer at Wal Mart is only a few bucks, and
adhesive-backed. Most models include a clock.

i have the polar s720i and it gives me the temp in my report but not
while i'm on the bike.

You can display the real time temperature on your Polar 720i. If you
set the main display to show current altitude, the number in the
lower right corner will be the temperature. AFAIK, this is the only
way to display temperature while riding.

Some buildings around town have lit-up signs that alternately
give the time and temperature. It's good enough for me. That,
and the traffic + weather segments on the local all-news radio
station (which are more timely and accurate than the local
TV weather channel.)

Which computer is that, may I ask?

A Specialized SpeedZone Pro, though I believe some of their lower-priced
models also have one.

My Specialized Pro Wireless has temp built in to it. It's pretty accurate.
It's a great computer.

(The best part is knowing the % grade on a climb in realtime, though.)

I prefer not knowing how hot it is. When I KNOW it's 95 I feel a lot
worse than if I just think it's hot.

I've got one of those 1" x 1.5" zipper pull thermometers pinned to the
back surface of my handlebar bag. It's usually shaded there, so it
isn't affected by direct sunlight. Seems pretty accurate.

Record riding temperature so far was 114 deg. F, last year in Wyoming.
I don't want to do that again.

We have a Honda dealership that is on the commuter ride to/from work
that gives the temp. It tends to be a little hotter than I think is
accurate -- who knows how they measure it. Still, it is the standard
for conversation between my husband and me: "It said it was 87 at the
Honda place!"

I use a Taylor digital pocket thermometer, mounted on the stem and with the
working part shaded from the sun with a plastic coffee cup lid taped to the
stem top. It measures a tenth of a degree C (in F, it jumps mostly .2 and
sometimes .1 degree, as a result of measuring in C and then converting)

You'll notice going through shade, and also riding on roads into the wind vs
across the wind, and other subtle effects to combat boredom.

A GPS is better in the anti-boredom arena though.

However the thermometer turns itself off every ten minutes, allowing you to
interact with it, a slight plus.

Yep...that's where I got mine...they're about $10-$12 cheaper than anyone
else I've seen on the net for that model.
