  1. I have a nook in my garage that I'm assuming was designed to hold a
refrigerator as that's about its size. I'd like to use it to hold two
bikes instead, I'm envisioning a hook to hold the front wheel against
the wall to hang the bike. A quick web search only shows a couple
products like what I'm envisioning, and they don't seem to get very good
reviews. Should I give up this idea and try to find another location to
store them? I was really hoping this would work as most other solutions
would require me to carry bikes up/down stairs to get to an appropriate
    storage space.

    thanks

Both Home Depot and Lowe's sell the type of hook you're looking for.

I use wall hangers similar to this one:

I found mine readily available at LBS and inexpensive. Just make sure
you can screw them into a stud.

Geez what bad reviews? What is there to review. It's pretty
straightforward. Here is part of my flock:

That's a little easier if you have the proper URL:

    Nice!

I bought a package with an assortment of about 10 rubber coated hooks
for about $5. It included some long hooks for hanging ladders that
work well for hanging bikes with deep-section aero wheels.

IMO, buying a bike-specific hook for 50x the price is ludicrous.

Perhaps a bit more complicated than the screw hook, but also prevents
flopping if the ceiling is too high to hang from.

I like to think of it as building my pecs....All that upper body work just
taking the bike down and putting it up.

Probably more deltoids, but equally good for filling in the skin
    suit.

I've seen several wall bracket arrangements for hanging a bike, but
like any such solution, they're only useful if the point where they
need to be mounted is backed up by a structural member; wallboard
alone will not hold them. This can be overcome by screwing a piece of
lumber to the studs (through the wallboard) to allow lateral position
adjustment. On the other hand, spending the extra money for the
on-the-wall brackets might not be worthwhile; they are seldom as easy
to deal with as a simpler screw-in hook mounted directly 8above the
    desired location.

If the ceiling of the nook is at a useful height, and if it's possible
to screw in a couple of large hooks up there and hang the bikes
(possibly via the added corsspiece mentioned above), I'd go with that
as the solution. It allows the area under the bikes to be made useful
as a storage spot for other stuff. Alternately, screw a couple of
pieces of 2x4 to the sides of th nook at a useful height, install a
sturdy shelf made from 2x8 or 2x10 pieces laid in the opening, and
then screw the hanger hooks into that; now you have a high shelf
suitable to stash things that are not used often, as well as a place
to store the bikes. Hanging them vertically this way allows you to
put them in with one hung bars-up and the other bars-down, possibly
making the process of stashing them easier...and you don't have to
fiddle with flipping the hook into position, as is required with all
of the wall-bracket things I've seen.

Okay, them too. The more the better!

Do you have access to the ceiling?

Put hooks in the right place relative to the wall and gravity
    will do the rest.
