Bike storage query

If the house has a hallway large enough then that is definitely the best
place for it -- in terms of keeping bike in best condition, if not
convenience as well. The bike will be at more risk of corrosion if it's
kept in some shed thing, as any moisture will linger.

Leave it in the passage like wot I does.For posher people that's the
hallway. When your guests arrive for your intimate dinner parties they
will have to pass your pride and joy and they will be astonished at
your choice of transport and the fact that you have a triple chainset!

Consider storing the bike /in/ the house. There are plenty of simple,
cheap solutions which can put the bike into otherwise unused space - up
on a wall somewhere, for example. The bike will suffer a lot less from
corrosion and general gunge, and be a lot safer from theft.

Disclaimer: six (usually nice clean) bikes in the dining room.

If you store a bike you care about outside the house, esp. at the
front, it *will* be nicked. Thieves love sheds, outhouses and storage
units - this kinda thing?

The very existance of such a structure at your house advertises the
fact that you have something(s) of value you wish to store. As a thief
bonus, they're usually less-well secured than a house, they're not
alarmed and contain no watchful occupants or savage hounds.

Sticky-fingered tw@s would be as happy to lift a decent bike as they
would a lawnmower or tools or practically anything that someone else
has worked hard to buy. Possibly happier, as the crime might provide
its own getaway vehicle.

I'm in agreement with the "stick it in the house" faction. I live in a
first-floor 1 bed flat, and my bike lives at the back of the bedroom.

Do you have a high ceiling above the stairwell ? What about a pulley
system to raise the bike into that unused area ?
