Hi there,
Can anyone recommend a good local bike shop in Devon. My sister is
looking to buy a hybrid type bike and I'm trying to convince her to
buy from a local shop!
Thanks,
Alex

Firstly, I am from Cardiff not Devon. Both my bikes were bought at my local
bike shop.
Two years ago I had a serious bike problem in the middle of an Audax. The
Crediton bike shed were extremely helpful in fixing my bike (Rohloff shifter
cable had siezed) and did not charge me (no parts were required). While they
were inspecting the problem they offered me a lift back to Tavistock, if they
were unable to fix the Rohloff. Excellent service to someone who was clearly
not and not going to be a regular customer. They did fix it and I completed
the Audax. A mail order shop will never do that. Local shops who provide such
service deserve our custom.
Devon's a BIG county....go on, give us a clue which bit your Sister's in...

You make it sound like T E X A S. Even if I lived in some backwater like
Woolsfardisworthy I think I would brave the moors to visit Colin Lewis
at least once. John St Cycles over the frontier in Crewkerne is also a
good bet.

Nope. Just big enough that my LBS in Tavistock wouldn't make so much
sense for someone living in Exeter or Barnstaple, let alone Honiton.

Which Woolfardisworthy? This one:

or this one:

Yes, non-yokels, there are two villages in Devon called
Woolfardisworthy. To avoid confusion, one (the one next to Cranford) is
pronounced Woolsery...

Yes, my niece (who is going to college there) and I spend a happy
evening chortling over a map of Devon with all the funny names.
Simon, who lives in Auchencairn, between Dundrennan and Palnackie (not
far from Kirkgunzeon) in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. Prizes will be
awarded to anyone who knows how to pronounce all those correctly (Ian
Johnston is disqualified for living between the Haugh of Urr and
Kilquhanity).

She's in the Torbay area, but very willing to travel if she can find a
good local bike shop.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I shall pass them on.
