Best thing to do is contact the local council (good luck!). Alternatively,
ask Bicycle Victoria if that's your state.

Any signage on the side of the road, such as clearway or no standing or that

if they are solid white lines, presumably its signd/marked as a bike lane thus its an illegal park

Where the car was parked I don't think there was any signage up.

sorry, meant a sign at the 'satrt' of the lane and bike symbols on the surface between the lines (however sporadic)

You ever seen those trials guys in action??.....I am pretty sure that if
someone is parked in the bike lane then you are allowed to hop up on the
boot, roof, bonnet, then off the front (providing that you don't take your
feet off the pedals and you stay within the lines).

Now that I would like to see!!

As you so eloquently pointed out to the driver of that white 4WD that was
parked in the bike lane, less than 2 car lengths from multiple properly
marked carparks, in Greensborough during Sunday's BR16 .

Probably not.

Our local council actually had the state bicycle committee pay for line
marking of our major streets by putting a bicycle stencil every
kilometre or so. That right, they did a bicycle plan and decided all the
parking lanes were great for riding a bicycle in.

If it is a dedicated bike lane, with the lines both sides, cars can only
cross it to turn corners, etc, as with edge lines. The lines on both
sides should mean that they can't park there. However when it's just
edge lines and then the kerb, they can park there. I am too lazy to look
up refs and would recommend contacting your local user organisation.

you can by law cross them to pass a right-turning vehicle, or to turn left. The distance in Vic has just been upped from 50m
