  1. Sorry but a google search threw up fairly old posts on this topic so I
    thought I'd ask.

Just got my pride and joy and since it cost £3500 and I'm off to
France next week for a spot of Col climbing I guess I should get
    insured.

Nothing like leaving it till the last minute.

My household insurer was aghast that a "pushbike" could cost so much
and declined to insure. I notice that most insurers max out at £1500.
I have a quote from Cycleguard that came in at about £400 p.a. with 90
days cover abroad which seems ok.

Any recommendations on better places to try.

    Regards,
    Injuryprone

  2. I didn't see Thomas' post on the same subject. What are the odds on two
people asking the same question at the same time like that????

    Sorry Thomas.

I don't insure mine so I'm not speaking from personal experience. But
apparently Marks & Spencer's household insurance covers bikes up to
£4,000 anywhere, and is generally a lot less fussy than many others.
Don't think we've heard of any bad experiences of M&S.

Google on this group for 'Marks & Spencer' and you'll come up with more.

On the one hand we've been happy with what they *say*, but OTOH we
haven't actually had to test out how words translate into actions.
Which is a Good Thing, of course, but worth bearing in mind...

Though when I tried them the builkdings+contents premium was the most
expensive I got by far, and I could go to my current insurer and
separately insure the bikes through CTC for less than the M&S premium.

Mileage /does/ vary with these. I don't know if it was a 'p' in the
month, us having a Magic Postcode or what, but the M&S cover was
actually cheaper than our previous Direct Line B&C without any bikes,
and also better than AA and Nationwide (and probably others, I know I
seemed to spend about a month with insurance on the brain).

Try them for a quote. If it's [censored]. move on, but you won't know until
    you ask.

My experience was the exact opposite. M&S buildings and contents combined
was about the same as I was previously paying for buildings alone, so I
saved the cost of the more expensive contents cover (over £100 per month in
burglary prone Manchester 20). Better coverage not only for the bikes but a
few other things too. Same caveat as Pete though, I haven't actually made a
    claim.
