  1. I'll be in Melbourne (my favourite city on earth) Monday and Tuesday (22-23 Aug 05) on business.

Does anyone know a bike shop (CBD) that will rent me a road bike (56) for a couple of days.

    Cheers

Try Borsari Cycles in Carlton. Not quite CBD but only a 15 minute walk
away. I've hired MTBs from them in the past, but not sure about roadies.

    Worth a try though.

There's a place on King's Way, near Albert Park in South Melbourne that I've
noticed too, but I've never been in there and can't say whether they're
good, bad or indifferent. I can't remember what they're called
though...anyone else here know the one I mean?

There's a place on the Yarra just near St Kilda Rd on the rowing sheds
side (works out of a shipping container). Never had much of a look as I
go past on the commute but I did notice a tandem there one day, and they
also had a trailer bike which would be a good practice run for anyoen
    thinking of buying one.

    Bike Now bikenow.com.aubikenow.com.au

I haven't been there, but have heard very good reports about them. And there are neat maps on their site.

    cheers,

    Thanks Ali... and everyone.

I've emailed BikeNow. They hire quite a lot of bike stuff... let's see what their service is like.

Keep 'em coming in case this one does not pan out.

    Cheers

It'll very much depend on time and day, but hell yes.

Southbank works for me seeing that's where I'm based (on my non work
from home days). What would you suggest for a lunch ride (surely you're
not thinking Beach rd)?? I commute on the MTB so any kind of speed is
out (same as on the roadie really).

    DaveB

  13. Possibly make it a FR? I've got a tute first thing Friday all semester which
precludes me from taking place in usual fixie shenannigans. Those as doesn't
have fixies can turn up on SS and those who don't have either we can mock as
    soft, uncommitted types.

likewise it depends heavily on the day, but if i'm free and on the commuter that day, i'd be keen... it's highly predictable but a simple ride would be fed sq as far down the yarra trail as we like, and then back again, or a loop back from wherever we depart the trail (richmond, abbotsford, etc.) - or in reverse and finishing at fed sq for coffee...

  15. Tuesday AM (or lunch) be good for me.

I'm with DaveB on the speed an easy pace would suit me.

I don't have confirmation of a bike yet. I emailed BikeNow and am waiting for a reply.

  16. By the way... what's the weather like???

Is it knicks and long sleeves or tights and jacket???

im in south melbourne and am working from home that week, so I would be up for a ride, BikeNow can be a little slack on email (they are better on the phone or in person), I live right across the road from them, they are my LBS and do 99% of my bike work.

I have my old avanti road bike, which is still in great shape, currently has toe strap peddles, as I use it for getting to the gym and back and to the shops, im about 5'10, so unless you are a midget, you should be ok.

I see Tuesday is not looming to crash hot at the moment, but its Melbourne, it could be a balmy 13 degrees!

I hear ya! I lived in Melbourne for a while a few years ago.

    I HAVE A BIKE!!!!!!

BikeNow will drop one off at me 'otel (Mercure Grand no less) and will pick it up when i'm finished (thanks Brendan @ Bike Now) so I don't have to run around. They'll even put the correct pedals on!

All I need to know is where and when????
