This Chlouber character sounds like he's ready to break some legs because feels someone (Johnson - a woman!) is stickin' their hands in his pockets...the guy comes off as being outwardly sexist among other choice adjectives...
I don't like people sniping me on Ebay at the last second but that's life. If you do away with the possibility of all competition you would do away with the bike race itself.Irony!
I guess I'm missing something. I didn't see anything that looked like it would take any money away from Chlouber, or take any money away from the local community, by having the Festival on the same weekend as the race.
Sounds to me like it's hubris, Chlouber just doesn't want to share "his" event with anyone else. What would it really hurt to have them both on the same weekend?

Yep, sounds more like a "stolen thunder" issue to me too.
I dunno. Chlouber has to be thinking that a person can't be in two places at the same time - Joe Blow can't be sittin' in his beer garden buyin' $8 beers and also be at Johnson's Bike Festival eatin' strawberry shortcake simultaneously. He figures competition will only split up the pie into smaller slices instead of makin' the whole pie larger...small-minded and greedy mentality...
