1. Hi all ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm a new rider; started cycling about 7 wks ago and loving every minute of it!! I learned about the MS 150 bike ride last year when some of my friends were partaking in it, and I was determined that I would do it this year. I'm doing the ride in Florida, 150 miles from Miami to Key Largo. I must admit I was very nervous to take on this challenge since I had not been on a bike since my teenage years. But failure is not in my vocabulary!! Being that I'm a pretty active person, riding for MS is something that I value. I couldn't imagine a life where I wouldn't be able to do the things I love. So I am riding for those who can't and helping to spread the word so we can come closer to finding a cure.

I can't do this alone!! Please support me on my ride by making a contribution. You can contribute by visiting main.nationalmssociety.orgFLSBikeEvents This is a secure site that goes directly to the National MS society. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you!!

Also any training tips are also welcome!! As I mentioned I'm very new to this. I'm up to 100 miles per week so far. Riding between 15-20 mph. Would like to be more in the range of 20-24 mph by event date. Is this possible in the amount of time left? Have 9 more weeks to go!!

    Thanks for viewing ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Looks like a great cause, I doubt you'll need to ride at 24mph for this event, that's seriously fast.

  3. I know I don't need to, but I would like too . I don't mean 24 mph all the way through or even as my average speed. Would just like to be ablt to hit that mark for some sprints maybe. I don't think I've been able to get that fast yet. The fastest I've gotten up to is about 21 mph and that was short lived, But I guess it just takes time.

  4. I'd like to say "good on ya" for taking part in a great cause. I'm actually going to be signing up for a similar ride in September but haven't committed to a distance yet due to being a newbie myself.

I just want to tag along for the training tips ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I'm riding three days a week right now. Wednesday I do sprints for a short 12 mile ride. Saturday and Sunday I do 50 miles each day. I'm normally pretty strong for the first 30 miles and then after that I start hurting pretty bad.

    How many weeks to go?

  7. 7 more weeks. But the week before I plan on taking it way easier. The actual ride is broken up into two 75 mile days. Any suggestions as to what is the longest distance I should be aiming for to be ready for the ride?

  8. You should be fine riding about 3/4s of the distance on your training rides. Keep practicing your speed and ride as much as possible.

  9. My advice is to pace your self the first day for sure. If you try to keep up with the fast "A" ridders, you may have a problem the second day. Stay hydrated, and eat enough but don't over eat. You don't want to get bloated. Lets hope the wind will be at your back and have a great time. If you have not ridden with a pack then try to get some advice on how safely ride in a pack, for sure you want your first ride to be a great time. Good luck.
