  1. I was wondering if any of you guys had an addiction to collecting all different types of bikes and stuff? One of my dads old friends was so addicted into collecting bikes that he collected over 2000 different types of road bike brands and types as well! He had like 20 bikes in the bathroom, his basement was full, heck he even slept with a bike too! How about you guys? lol

  2. Well that is kind of crazy and a bit like a compulsive hoarding. I do not have the money to buy that amount of bicycles and I would like to have more than one. I would prefer to have some old bikes for some low price and make them functional again. Repairing makes me happy and when you finish and have a final product in your hands it is priceless. Still, 2000 bikes is ridiculous even for an official dealer 🙂

  3. I think it's got to do with your personality, I am not a hoarder by nature. I know people that can't even throw a paper away, but I am exactly the opposite. I normally just have what I need and don't like collecting stuff.

  4. Well! that a kind of craziness and I think that it's really a madness.Bike in the bathroom?Ok Hmm! up to this is ok but sleep with a bike Oh?It's really disgusting well I don't think that he would have a marriage life after that.lol
I have almost 14 bikes in my basement and I am collecting that from my childhood.Well! that basement was of my father but now it's mine and I have total 14 bicycles, 4 bikes, and no car but looking to have one in few months after that my basement is full.

  5. I just don't have the space and the time, nor the inclination to collect a bunch of bikes. This is probably something I considered in my early twenties, as a friend of mine was collecting bikes and I almost bit the collecting bug. I'm glad I didn't take that road, as I've needed to use my savings for other more important things.

  6. Wow! He collected more than 2000 different bike brands. It's really awesome. I think he was a 'super' bike enthusiast. I have never seen people like him. Actually, I am addicted to riding my bike rather than just collecting it. You need to become a pro in 'riding' and I don't think that just collecting different types of bikes will give you any advantage.

  7. I have to admit that I'm not really one for collecting or hoarding things, so while I'm probably addicted to actually cycling itself, when it comes to keeping previous bikes or anything like that it's not really something I'd do.

  8. Yeah, I hate accumulating stuff, so all I really want is to have my gear working properly and to be able to ride my bike, the main issue here is simply to have time to do it.

  9. Wow, collecting that many bikes must be a big adiction, however I know afriend who collets BMX bikes to sell them, I do not really know why he sells them if he actually collects them but it is amazing to see that many bikes in a single place, must be exciting though.

  10. That's a big difference to collect for our own pleasure and to collect to make a deal out of it. Either cases it's a sport that moves millions, so it's just natural both cases happen.

  11. That would be pretty hardcore. But I just don't have the time nor the disposition to collect bicycles. And is also not something that I would associate with addiction issues by the way.

  12. Thta's actually very troubling, imagine how much money must he have wasted on this (yes, wasted, there's no practical use for 2000 bikes, unless you won a shop). I thought at first this thread would abput addiction to cycling (never heard of it, but that would be the least unhealthy addiction ever, I suppose 😄).

  13. Wow, 2000 bikes is insane, no way anyone needs that have a couple of them for different situations it's fine, but no need for more than that.

  14. I wouldn't even have anywhere to out that amount of bikes, even if I wanted to have that size of a collection. The first question I'd have to ask is what exactly are they planning on doing with them at a later date?

People collect classic cars and sell them for fortunes, but as far as bikes are concerned I'm not sure there's that much call for classic bikes at auctions, unless of course you've got the first one ever made or something like that.

  15. If there is such thing... it's probably the most awesome addiction thing in the world. I guess, at least. Hope those people don't really suffer from it but rather enjoy it.

  16. Well aren't addictions supposed to be rather unhealthy? This seems more beneficial than anything unless you're going to increase your chances of accidents or whatever.

  17. That does seem a bit excessive, there is one thing really liking bikes that takes it to a whole nother level. That cross the line straight into obsession. There is on the other hand a way that he can enjoy his obsession and and earn money from it, he could start a bike museum.

I'm not quite sure I'd say its the most awesome thing in the world, as I think that even though I'm sure that on a forum such as this, we all enjoy cycling and bikes, but many of us would never dream about collecting around 2000 of them and keeping them in the house.

There's liking something a lot, then there's becoming obsessed. This behaviour for me is the latter.

If you've got that many bikes then I think you're going to have to think of something to do with them, as you aren't going to be able to keep them around the house forever.

What was it the OP said? 20 bikes in the bathroom alone? Now I like my bikes as much as the next man, but even I'd draw the line at that.

2,000 different bikes? Seriously?! I do think that's a bit kind of obsessive, although each to their own I suppose. Collecting bikes is something I've never really considered. Perhaps collecting spare parts which may come in useful in the future or having a few spare bikes just in case something goes wrong with the one you use most regularly has a point to it but I can't imagine just collecting loads of bikes for the fun of it, especially if you don't have enough room for them which the person you refer to in your post clearly hasn't otherwise they wouldn't be storing bikes in their bathroom!
