A big thankyou to the councillors and works people who were so supportive and to one of the councillors who gave a speech the likes of which BV would be proud!
Special mention of Graeme Stone our el presidente who's tireless efforts ensured this could happen. Meeting finished just before midnight but well worth it. Now if they could just do something about all those hills... 😄
"The Principal Bicycle Network (PBN) is a network of arterial bicycle routes in metropolitan Melbourne. VicRoads has primary responsibility for managing the development of this network. Bicycle facilities on the network are implemented by VicRoads and local councils depending on whether they are an arterial or local road.The network currently consists of 2400 kms of existing and proposed on-road and off-road bicycle routes. So far, approximately 600 kms of the network has been completed."

So are we gonna get some more signs on the Eastern Fwy bike trail indicatign appropriate use for cyclists, pedestrians and dog owners?

That's not Boroondara, Dave as far as I know. PBN is all about lanes on roads. If you wanna make a submission to council or BBUG drop me a line and I'll give you the relevant info
OK, as long as they join up & can actually be used for commuting instead of meandering about with no real direction & suddenly come to a halt (or disappear) in some pretty obscure location or busy hway.
Don’t want to [censored] but working through the current bicycle network in Melbourne requires persistance & determination.
Being the eastern suburbs I suppose that leaves the western suburbs still with bugger all. Pity really, it’s flat all the way to Geelong, you’ld think a majority of cyclists in Melbourne would have the sun in their eyes on the way home.
I know this is one of "the" big initiatives that BV has been working towards, but haven't heard any recent news about this lately..
Some trails link up really well, e.g. the way Capital City/Gardiners Creek/Merri Creek/Main Yarra/Eastern Fwy are all connected together is quite excellent, and on the whole are fantastic commuting routes.. but some (like Diamond Creek/Eltham) are difficult to navigate from one end to the other, probably more a case of needing good signposting of where the trail goes more than anything else.

Watch that space! There is moves afoot from some of the stakeholders behind the scenes at the moment which wont be official but more likely jsut happen without announcing it, by the sound of things. IMHO the link would far more feasible and likely to get thru if done at the end of View/Parkview to the west of the golfcourses. Fighting an organisation full of lawyers/professionals is fraught with.... well, fraught! Maybe join Darebin BUG and help them campaign as you obviously have some energy to share 🙂

Jeez, mark. The amount of work that has gone into this (other BUGs wonder how BBUG continues to exist, working 'with' such a council). Bits are joining up all the time but this doesnt happen overnight. This is one of the reasons I got involved. Maybe you could start a BUG over westway or find the relevant local one for you, cheers FD🙂

Find out who your local BUG is - and ask them about important local issues in the area. Contact BV and tell them what you think.
Concerning the Darebin/Yarra Trail connection, a new local residents association in Alphington has fired up with a survey to residents. As the issue is on the doorstep of three BUG's, namely Darebin, Boorandara and Yarra, it should be made a election issue. Off to draft some emails/letters. cheers.

Speaking of connections. We have also had a win with Council almost finished the installation of lights and appropriate ramps at Whitehorse Rd, Deepdene to connect the Anniversary trail, so including crossings/lights is now nonstop from Alemain to Chandler Hwy

Might have a look-see & find out what's happening. Rail line bike path through Sunshine could link the whole of the outer west to the city. From Sunshine to Footscray is the sticking point, outside of that there are current bike-path options & alternatives.
