  1. Hi all

Just got my new steed yesterday and am looking at getting it insured for
theft & accidental damage while riding etc (its worth about $4k).

Can anyone give some recommendations? How much does it cost? I see Bicycle
Qld do it as an option to their membership.. does anyone have this?

    have a good one

check into the excess for that 😄

the BV version requires you to change over your house insurance to the particular 3rd party Co as well to get you the extra bike Insurance.
Most home contents insurance policies cover bicycles at home, but not elsewhere.

There are other Co's however the annual fee is damn steep (i think it may approach 10% of the value!). Do what i did and get hit by a car in the wrong 🙄

I have all of mine insured under my home and contents insurance through CGU.
Only costs a bit extra. Will cover you though accidental damage, but not
whilst in competition. We have have made one claim in 5 years. I know of
one other household with the same insurance and they claimed OK as well when
they unfortunately needed to. Excess was $100 from memory. This is the
same type of insurance that covers golf clubs, sat-on sunglasses, pouring
vases of water down the back of the TV - 'the 'clutz' type accidental
    insurance extras cover!

Oh yeah, in Qld you can get that through Suncorp, but with RACQ/GIO they
won't cover bikes, at all. [censored]! When I moved home, couldn't
convince M&D to change policies, so had to take out separate cover. Went
with the BQ guys, listed it as training/social, because mostly I wanted
    the theft cover.

So does this CGU insurance cover you if you bingle your bike while riding or just incidents that happen at home? ie all riding bar racing riding?

In our case we had a training ride bingle on one of the Greenhill Rd
hairpins, right near the bottom. Significant other slid out, wiped out his
helmet, shoes, and every item of clothing he had on. Bled all the way home.
All that was paid for, bike was OK (loss of blood now covered). Friend's
husband slid out on another hill on a patch of diesel and bent frame and
scratched cranks, brakes etc (record carbon). Bike was replaced. Both
cases involved photos and visits by an assessor though. No problems
whatsoever. So yes, all riding bar racing.
