  1. I have some nice gel shorts, but I'd like to try out a Bib.

My problem is, I've tried on some lower priced items, (Performance,
etc.) and they're NOT very comfortable, and others are SERIOUSLY
    expensive...

I'd like to get a nice pair, preferably gel, like my shorts.

Can anyone recommend a good pair that's not too expensive.

I've found some Descente Aero on sale for about $70, but they're out of
    stock.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try Pearl Izumi Attack bibs. Most bike shops carry them.
    Also www.velowear.com.

The Performance models are different from one another (even as to
sizing), so if you didn't specifically try the Performance Elite bibs
(the regular ones, not the "multi-L" or Lite), these are my favorites,
    and on sale at $50.

I'm also satified with the Volers (www.voler.com). They're a little
more lightweight than I prefer, but that's me.

Obviously, fit is everything, and you just have to try them on. Nothing
like a big nearby bike shop for that.

Ditto. Avoid the 'gel shorts' like the plague. The Elite bibs are the ones
to get. They're a level or two above the Performance Century shots, imo,
which is another popular item. You'll notice the quality on the first ride
and end up going back and getting another pair. ;-p

Regularly $59 or so onsale in the store for $39.

Why do you like the bibs so much? I have a hard time wrapping them around
    my head.....hmm...

I've been really happy with the lowest priced Castelli shorts, the KISS
model, on rides up to 140 miles. They aren't cheap, but they seem better
made than anything else I've tried, and they're extremely comfortable.
Apparently the higher priced models are more comfortable in extremely hot
weather, something I don't see a lot of in this corner of Colorado (elev
    9000 ft plus).

    Mwahahaha. Good one.

In case you're not just foolin' w/me, you know all the pros wear bib
shorts, right? No constriction around the waist is the part I like. In
addition if you get a good fit they never slip down. If your regular shorts
slip down just a little they can hook on the horn of the saddle when you
mount the bike from standing over the top tube.

It sounds goofy, but I think there was some kind of energy flow restriction
wearing regular biking shorts tied around the waist, though I never had
mine tight. The first time I rode with bibs felt so great, I switched over
then and there. Probably psychological, dunno, good buddy. I wear a very
light lycra undershirt under them, and a jersey over top.

Life's dilemmas rolled into one neat phrase :-)

I wear Briko Katana bibs, they are pretty good, comfortable and
long-lasting. Unless you are on the large side. I am a bit over 6ft
tall and weigh under 180lb, I have to buy the XXL size and even they
are a bit tight (at the thigh grippers at least). They are sized for
    Italian midgets!
