Bianchi 1885

WOW!!! I didn't realize the made bikes that exotic in 1885!!!

It appears to be a 1996?

The date of the components, and therefore probably the bike, more than likely date to about 2006 rather than 1996 ...

It is almost impossible to be certain what the actual components are because very little can be gleaned from a picture which shows the NON-driveside of a bike!

The brake levers probably are 'CENTAUR' & so-marked ... so, the rest of the components are probably from the Campagnolo Centaur group, too.

If so, the components would be the equivalent to Ultegra 6600 components ...

And, a bike equipped with that level of componentry would probably have retailed in the range of $1500(US) to $2000(US) when it was new.

I ran various years through the image part of the internet and the only year that came up with that frame, paint and decal scheme was 96, nothing came close in 06. I checked from the images of the various years from 1990 to 2009.

I tried a web search of Bianchi catalog but could turn up nothing without paying for some and incomplete in others.

Check the serial number, usually the SN will contain the model year.

You could be right about the frame ... but, if you are basing it on the cosmetics (paint & decals), then it may not be a reliable dating method.

Regardless, the particular style of Campagnolo shifters were not introduced until 1998.

BTW. The use of threadless forks on Road bikes didn't take hold until c2000 +/- a year-or-so ...

I believe that Pantani's 1998 (?) Bianchi [which would have been a smaller frame size] had a horizontal top tube ... and, the general adoption of the so-called "compact" frame style didn't become widespread until the 21st Century.

The headset thing is an interesting problem, maybe the photos on the web image search was wrong? I find it odd that that frame with that paint and decal scheme doesn't show up for any other year. Someone may have mislabeled the year of that bike.

BTW. Pantani's Bianchi (c1998) had a threaded headset.

so 1885 is the model? why are the color schemes not matching to the OP's scheme?

So a 2005 model it looks like, based on the paint scheme and the wheels. It originally came with Campy Veloce, though I don't have a clue if this model is still stock or upgraded or what. It at least has Campy wheels on it.

With a TAPE MEASURE held horizontally, measure the distance between the CENTER of the stem & the CENTER of the seat post -- based on the pic, it will be about 56cm +/-.

The stem appears to be about 110mm.
