  1. I have actually LIKED Performance for a long time, and they have some
great deals. I'd like to do all my business at LBS, but when items cost
    30% more I go online.

My only beef is that lately it seems that a lot of the stitching and
zippers on Performance brand items seem to be a lot flimsier than they
    used to be.

Anyway, I wanted to note that the online order system at
PerformanceBike.com seems to have taken a turn for the worse in
handling orders that have one or more items out of stock. First, the
web catalog OFTEN shows items "in stock" that aern't. Then if you do
order, everything looks fine and you get your order "summary" via
email, however you might not notice that you dont get an order
confirmation..... So there you sit thinking your order is on the way,
    and its not.

Turns out that if there is a problem with the order, it just drops into
the bit bucket. You never get notified, or asked if you want to cancel
    or backorder.

    so... beware.

I've also noticed this also. I have a couple of their shorts where the
stiching has pulled apart before I wear out the material.

Some of my other complaints have been where 'size' has not consistent
across the Performance line (not mixed with other vendors such as
Pearl Isumi (SP?)) and their idea of 700x25 is more like my idea of
700x18. I have 700x23's that are wider than some of the performance
    brand tires.

    Isn't that common for tires?

  4. We are fortunate to have a local Performance Bicycle store which
honors the web price on merchandise when I bring in copies of the
    web pages.

I can't speak for the quality, but their sizing is weird -- the tops run large,
the bottoms small. But what really keeps me from buying their clothes is that
they're tacky looking -- just a little off in design, color, and tailoring --
yet not any cheaper than brand name stuff on sale. REI used to have the same
problem, but their own clothes are much better now.

After the holidays I drove home through Chapel Hill just to shop at Performance.
I was ready to spend at least a couple hundred bucks on clothing. But all of it
looked really crappy so I didn't buy a single thing. I have since bought a
bunch of brand name clothing on sale through the Performance catalog.

Which one is that? Please share with your gentle readers...

I would think they all do.

    (Kinda like price-matching masturbation.)

No wonder all the clerks wear glasses... BS

I bought a sleeveless jersey from them, and by the second time I wore it,
the fabric was all picked and rough looking. I then got one from Pearl
Izumi and their fabric is so smooth and tight that I don't have the problem
of little picks all over it. I think maybe the Hydropak straps caused the
rough spots on the Performance jersey, but if so, the Pearl Izumi one was
not affected. Now, being cheap, I try to get the brand name stuff on
    sale....

Pat in TX where I can't figure out why there are sleeves on bicycle jerseys
    anyways.

Maybe you have a big butt and a skinny chest 🙂
I'm sorry, I just could not resist. Actually, that would be the ideal
build for a road cyclist, sort of the Eric Hyden (sp?) look.

Performance uses several different manufacturers to make their stuff.
Some of their higher end house-brand stuff is made by Voler and is
pretty good quality. Much of their lower end stuff is pretty bad.
The Performance-Voler stuff costs about the same as buying directly
    from Voler.

I wasn't aware of that. Which lines are made by Voler? Are they really the
    same thing?

I've been very happy with Voler's stuff -- it's as good or better than fancier
brands' costing 2-3 times as much. However, because of this I'd rather just
give all my money to Voler, rather than Performance.

All the stuff I bought from them so far works fine. I haven't had any
    problems with anything.
Delivery is slow, running 2-3 weeks, but everything shows up.
The bibs I bought have been washed 50-60 times so far and are still working
    just fine.
The jerseys have been used and washed almost as much too.
Of course I am not wearing a backpack, so I don't know if the jerseys would
    wear differently or not.
Maybe later when it gets warmer, and I start wearing a backpack over the
jerseys, I might notice wear then.
