In which Bettini is a time trialist, is a favorite in a
3-week stage race, and is spelled "Bettinni"?

I'll give you that Rubiera, even at the age of 34, is
not somebody to give piles of minutes away to, but I
don't think the favorites (the non-Bettini favorites)
are losing sleep over him at this point. Hincapie
is probably in the Giro for training miles, to challenge
for a stage if he's lucky, and to replenish his supply
of stylish Italian shoes.

Andy Noe' is the guy they should be worried about. He just missed the podium
a few years ago after being in 3rd place for most of the first 2+ weeks.

2003 it was. But Noe' is 38 and time trials with
the speed, if not the flair, of Michael Rasmussen.
Although, there is only one true ITT here, the other
being a mountain TT. Still, I would expect Noe'
to wind up working for Di Luca.

Dario Cioni was also in that break, 4th in the Giro
in 2004. A TTist more than a climber, but not chopped
liver.

Its the same universe where Salvodelli, Deluca and Ulrich (Fuentes was
a little more careful in this universe) are riding for that team from
Kazakstan.
