Of course it's easy to say ``I shoulda'' after the event, but I considered
Axel for third and then rejected him as not very well suited to the course.

What a diverse bunch of riders and countries in the top 20.

Voeckler is the first Frenchman. I think we're going to keep seeing
him there or thereabouts in classics and short stage races as long as
he doesn't get stupid and try to become a big tour GC rider.

As much as I dislike McEwen, he did well considering he was in a break
for some time. Ditto that for Ciaran Power.

Agreed! It seems just like him to go for flash and publicity, and
extinguishing the fireworks for the sake of GC ambitions could only dull him
into mediocrity.

Ciaran was a big surprise for me. Mark Scanlon is not the only significant
Irish rider after all...

I don't think there's much doubt, unless he signed a long contract
prematurely. BTW he rode for Portugal in the World's last year in the RR,
he abandoned with 47 km to go but the experience must have paid off.

Since Rumzas, the first thing I think of when a no-name shows up on the
podium is "dope."

He is according to leggett(commentary of race) number 295 of the top
1500 riders. That doesn't make him a nobody. I hope he comes out to oz
for the tour down under so I can get his signature. I was tickled pink
at the winners. First time portugal has won a place. Great for Italy.
Great for Belgium. I would have liked Robbie and Stuart to have won but
like most of the teams they misjudged Bettini. A pity Paulinho started
his final attack too early he would have won if he had left it a little
later I think. Robbie and Stuart's offsiders quit too which wouldn't
have helped. It looks like Cadel Evans is turning into a gonna not a
winner. Interesting to see if Michael Rogers manages to get any better.
I wonder where Tyler finished?
