    Hi,

    Any opinions on the best type of brake shoes for
    roads style brakes?

    If you mean pads, I cast a strong vote for Kool-Stops. The stock pads
    on my Specialized Sequoia made horrible noises, stopped slowly, and
    gouged tiny chunks out of the rim. Nothing helped--sanding, steel wool
    on the rims, nothing. I gave up, replaced them with Kool-Stops, and
    have enjoyed quiet and quick braking ever since.

    I was allways satisfied with Kool-Stopps!
    Road, V-Brake, Canti and Disc Brakepads are all good.

    Kool-Stop Continentals, unless you're looking for cartridge refills.
    All the colors work great.

    Silent, long lasting, and easy on rims. What's not to like?

    Oh, and they stop great and are cheep.

    Another vote for Koolstop. I like the Dura model -- orbital adjustment,
    and replaceable pad inserts that save having to adjust the whole shoe
    again. Fit most calipers. Campagnolo Mirage's slots need filing slightly
    wider, though.

    I also have Kool Stop Salmons on both bikes and really like them.

    So, another vote for Kool Stop.
