best road bike

Specialized Sirrus, a friend had one, v.fast and responsive, sorry but i dont know how much it is in euros, must be around 500-600?

I bought an '05 Sirrus this summer for $460, which is just under 360
euros, and agree that it's a good choice for a comfortable, lightweight
commute bike.

I just picked up a Specialized Sirrus Today. No long term test report,
but a bit of riding today left a smile on my face. I bought a 2004
model and saved a few bucks ($399 US). A lot of bike for the money. I
already have a MTB set up as a all-terrain/all weather ride. I wanted
something quick, light, and nimble for those sunny days on the road. I
didn't want to sink a small fortune into a bike or ride a theft
magnet. Most of the other hybrid bikes I looked at were really comfort
bikes with skinny tires (I felt like an old fogey riding them). The
Sirrus made me feel more like a kid again. I have an old Centurian
touring bike and in comparison the Sirrus is lighter, more nimble, and
a smoother ride as well. It just felt like a good fit from the first
cycle of the cranks. Heck, even the seat fit my butt.

Another bike I considered was the Kona Dew, but they really seem to be
between model years. I called close to 20 bike shops and the old stock
was gone, the new stock maybe in December. The Kona Jakes are
interestin as well.

Marin has some decent, reasonably priced road-type bikes with straight
bars as well.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with my new wheels, but I am looking
forward to saddling up again and ridin' her hard. Try the Sirrus, you
may like it.

If you plan to spend a lot of time on your bike you may want to rethink the
handlebars because straight ones offer fewer opportunities to move hand
positions reducing fatigue.

If you do that then the Giant OCR2 (2004) would be an excellent bike in the
price range you are looking at. This will provide you with good set of
components but not too expensive that every thief walking by will want to
strip. The OCR 2 head set allows for a lot of adjustment. I've put 1,800
km on mine this summer and just love it.

You mentioned that this bike was for commuting to work. The OCR 2 has bolt
holes in the rear forks that will allow for the easy installation of
pannier carrying racks - a feature buyers often overlook and manufactures
ignore. Some of the newer racing type bikes have rear carbon forks to
which I understand to which carrying racks should not be attached. The OCR
2 has front carbon forks.
