I don't think there is one best cd... it all depends on the preference of the client and
practitioner. Most of us probably have a variety in order to not get bored with one particular type.
I really like beachy stuff and Chinese orchestra stuff. I have one that is done by a Chinese
orchestra and its called .... [censored], I forget, something about sleeping. I love it.

Gee, I thought your license was revoked if you didn't play Enya. <g> You actually need a variety of
types because different music relaxes different people. Personally, I like Andean panpipe music but
you have to know what you're buying as some Andean bands, like Incantation, also do heavy metal (not
on same CD). At least at www.cdnow.com, you can hear about 30 secs of most tracks on most CDs. (I
have no commercial interest in the aforementioned company. I'm only a customer)

You know.... I do have 2 Enya cd's but rarely play them. One day I put one in after not playing it
for months. The client was new and he says "I have had 2 massage's now and both I had to hear Enya!"
Who would have known. Needless to say, I changed CD's.

Good topic. I personally like music that is serene and doesn't get in the way. "Ambient" music is
typically the genre of music from which I choose. Some good examples are:

Brian Eno- Thursday Afternoon, Music for Airports, Neroli, The Pearl, Plateaux of Mirror

Al Gromer Khan- most of his discs, especially Space Hotel, Kamasutra Experience, Future Lounge,
Monsoon Point, The God Perfume II....nice combination of sitar and electronic atmospheres- very soft
and exotic.

Steve Roach- Structures From Silence, Dreamtime Return

Jeff Pearce- any of his music

Harold Budd- The White Arcades, The Room, Lovely Thunder

Also Tibetan Bowls are meditative. Deuter has a good cd called Nada Himalaya that is about an hour
of the resonating singing bowls...it's far out but not in a disturbing way.

Amazon.com should have decent sound clips from most of these cd's.

I'd say Enya gets played for about 50% of the massages I've had in the last two years. I thought it
was a union requirement or something... I've never requested Enya, but I don't mind her either.

What do you think about R. Carlos Nakai? I like the flute music and Feather, Stone and Pipe has some
neat parts with a didgeridoo... very cool. I had one client from Sedona, AZ who wanted *but* Nakai!
That's all they play in the shops down there...

PP--My massage therapist said one her clients always requests Elvis...I cannot even imagine relaxing

Not to overload you with choices, but here are some good websites to check out: www.hypnos.com

reviews of new age and related music) www.echoes.org (home of the radio show "Echoes"...you can
check if it airs on your local public radio stations- a lot of good artists featured here)
www.hos.com (Hearts of Space label and radio show "Music from the Hearts of Space, also on National
Public Radio)

Of course not all of the music will be suitable for massage, but a bunch will...usually I read for
descriptions such as "slow" "dreamy" "ethereal" or "ambient" if I can't find sound clips. For
massages I try to avoid the extremes between intense techno-tribal and the dark drone music, and go
for the serenity of the middle road.

Actually although I have a large variety of music for massage, including the union required Enya
(lol), a lot of my clients like the CD's from a group called Merlin's Magic. The CDs are actually
"for Reiki" as the group's leader is a Reiki Master, but they are very peaceful and relaxing. Other
favorites include a CD called "Mozart for Meditation" and one that I found at Brookstone called "The
Elegance of Pachelbel" (check my spelling on that). My clients have commented about how much they
like those two in particular, even asking where to get their own copies.

I recently purchased a Nakai CD called Canyon Trilogy. I love the sound of the flute. It's very
relaxing and serene. While I was there, I picked up another from a man named Sky Redhawk; similar
sound but a little different playing style. There are some beautiful Japanese flute recordings I
have heard before, although I couldn't name one.

I've had massages in the past where the "music" was nothing but ocean sounds. Very relaxing; I was
zoned almost right away, and stayed that way for an hour afterward.

I have a cd titled songs from a secret garded.
artist secret garden customers have given me alot of very good feed back
over it
