Best Concert/Gig/Live Show

For me August 1980 - Pink Floyd at Earls Court was the best show that I have been at.
Superb.

Inflatable cattle -
Brick Walls -
Moving tribute to Syd Barrett.

The next best is Bruce Springsteen at Slane Castle Ireland in 1985.
The Boss's 3.5 hour show was excellent.
The Boss was in his pomp.

Finally, Paul McCartney at the RDS in Dublin June 2004 - very impressive.
As was David Bowie at the Point in Dublin in November 2004.

How about your favourite ?

we used to go to concerts and gigs a lot when i was younger...but it was mostly metal bands that werent really famous.
Napalm Death, Paradise Lost, The Haunted...the most famous band i have seen was at the SECC in Glasgow and that was Metallica in 1990.

My wife has utterly diffrent taste in music than me, so I took her to a Slayer gig in some back street [censored] house in 2002 and she too me to see the Corrs at the Royal Concert Hall and then Vonda Sheperd (something to do with Ally McBeal)...

I went to see Motorhead supported by Heathen and Sacred Reich back in 1989....that was pretty crazy with lots of 'blue angel' types and neo-nazi punks...perhaps it was that..

My brother was heavily involved in the punk rock scene - Black Flag, Dead Kennedy's.
Got very starnge at one stage - he became a follower of utlra right groups in the UK during the early 80's : Hoxton and Craig, Strength through Oi.
Those punk bands are pretty right wing.

From a number of comments of yours I get the impression you really like Pink Floyd........I do too. Just can't listen to them much........gives me too much dejavu! Know what I mean?

Shania Twain....[censored]...i would have to put my foot down there. Talk about painful...

I did get into punk when i was younger but i was too young to be a true punk. I was 6 when punk was at its height in the late 70s but i still bought the albums when i was older...i loved Black Flag and the Dead Kennedeys, still listen to them today...I was never into the right wing aspect of the lyrics however but i loved the aggression of the singers...it was a launch-pad for me to get into thash metal. My favourite band of the genre was a German Hard-Core Trash outfit called Kreator. A very aggressive social-political band with amazing vocal from Mille Pedroza...to this day no one matches them for thier appetite for aggression...its perhaps not everyones taste and i dont follow the scene that much anymore but if they were in town i would be the first in the queue

That's right Ruedy - I do like them.

I see Roger Waters now lives in the Hamptons in the USA.
I was surprised to read this because he was the archetypal englishman - writing songs about his Dad in WW2 and all that.

Favourite Pink Floyd song ?
I like Comfortably Numb, See Emily Play, Fletcher memorial Home are great.
I Like Us and Them, Money, Time also.
Favourite PF album : Wish you were here.

Husker Du is infact American. They're most famous song was made famous by the Irish band Therapy! called 'Diane'. Just FYI 😎

I don't tend to go to big venue gigs or concerts any more. Mostly I support my local bands at local and regional gigs.

However, as a young man, my two most memorable concerts was one at the Filmore East in Greenwich Village back in the early 70s. Procol Harum headlined the bill, but the band that rocked the house was PG&E. The other concert was in Central Park and featured Ramsey Lewis. He came out on stage and appolgised for having a #1 hit (The In-Crowd) when he was really a jazz man. He said that if we came there expecting to hear The In-Crowd we should leave because he planned an evening of jazz. No one left and it was great.

Well, I now people well in their forties still following the music scene...🙂
It's quiet normal to think a band called 'Husker Du' would be German...

As for my favourite gig I'd say a festival called Pukkelpop in 1991, when I was a
spotty teenager. It started at 10 in the morning with a band no one had heard about called Nirvana...also there were the young Smashing Pumpkins.

But the best were the Ramones - greatest moshpit I've ever seen! Followed by The Pogues, I remember Shane Mcgowan being so drunk he forgot whole parts of his own songs...

Also liked seeing the Stray Cats alot (1991), Iron Maiden (2000), Jon Spencer (1999 I think) and Portishead (1998 ?)

An eclectic collection !
Shane McGowan to Iron Maiden and then on to the Stray Cats.
Very diverse.

In thinking about this topic - I remember bringing my niece and nephew to see
2Unlimited at a gig in the early 1990's in Dublin.
(they were big fans of them).

I'll bet that's the only time a Pink Floyder ever went to a 2Unlimited gig !

Have to say the girl singing at the gig was a cracker, though !

Riverdance

2 of the 4 Sublime shows I went to were phenomenal. The other two they were so high they could barely play. No Doubt was excellent as was U2 Zooropa. ACDC was good as well.

The absolute best concert I have ever gone to was Bella Fleck and the Flecktones. It was an increadible feat of musical talent. :eek:

Another great concert was the Hillsong Australia worship team with Darlene Zschech. An awesome time of worship!

FLOYD ROCKS! Unfortunately, I was only in eight grade last time they played here 🙁

I've seen:
Sisters of Mercy (bass was jacked up, and vocals were turned down, making it not so great)
Ozzy w/ Type O and Rollin band: YEEEESSSSSSS
Aerosmith: Great Show
Tom Petty: TP ROCKS!!!
And an assortment of country bands w/ my GF

No further tickets will be issued as too many were killed at the last concert in Iraq.

The Crickets. Yeah, Buddy Holly's band still tours and were opening for Iris Dement. They were great!
