    I was following Bruyneel's comments as reported in various news sources today and yesterday.

    Reading between the lines it wouldn't be hard to determine that Beltran is now the de facto leader
    of the squad.

    It's nice to see that they have so many well and reasonable placed riders though.

    But Barry seems to be finding his form.

    He didn't do too badly in Zurich and I was really surprized as, before I'd seen the full finishing
    list, I had thought that he would have packed.

    But he finished 54/55th (?) which wasn't bad on the day although he was 8 minutes down.

    However, his Vuelta form seems great and a real surprize because he told me a few weeks ago that if
    he made the Vuelta squad his ambition would simply be to do what he could for Heras and to try to
    finish the race.

    Hopefully he will have a good stage today and move up a little on GC.

    as today's stage unfolds, at first it looked like Beltran was stepping up to do domestique duties, to chase down the first real attack on the Aubisque...but either Johan told him to chill, or he couldn't handle the pace, and Heras took off.

    As it stands now, they're starting the final climb, and Heras is a minute up on the ONCE guys. Heras could be riding into the lead. They could be saving Beltran's legs and his spot on GC to use him as a threat later in the race.

    I take that back. They're just going up the Soulor and they have about 25 km of downhill/flat riding to go before the last climb. Should be interesting if it's a technical descent.

    It looked to me like Beltran pulled back intentionally from Perez. It left me wondering what Bruneel
    told him. Support Roberto, wait for Roberto to soften the field up then attack on the last climb,
    don't attack now, it's too early, etc?
