I looked for the howff in Coire nan Clach this year, on my way off Beinn
a Bhuird, without success. I looked under the biggest boulders before I
got fed up! Anyone have a map reference for it?

Smith-Winram Bivouac is Map Ref 907 996.
Stayed there perhaps ten years ago and it was ok.

Just follow the flashing neon signs, "Secret Howff This way".
Secret howff is nowhere near Coire nan Clach.

Uncannily I was up there on Saturday. I don't know if it's 'The' Howff, but
there is an 80% complete wall built up against the west side of the largest
boulder, which is just east of the high lochan ~ NJ 1003 00120.

Niether's your grid ref.
Try 097 996. One number out of place. Not too difficult to work out...
Unlike some I was trying to be helpful.

Trust me, I was trying to be helpful. I'm well aware my sense of humour
might not match up with a large percentage of everyone else's but if it
makes just one person smirk slightly as I believe it might from real
life experiences I class it as helpful.

Not that one - I know where that is and stayed there this year! I mean
the 'Smith-Winram' howff in Coire nan Clach.

Neil's grid ref is nearer Coire nan Clach than the Secret Howff!
I just vaguely recall a reference to "The Secret Howff of Beinn a
Bhuird" from "Mountain Days & Bothy Nights". Is that what makes it a
secret then, the fact that it's really on Ben Alder?
Hopefully you'll never find out.

See that's the way it goes, ya starts with one secret then no one's
telling anyone anything. Bad things secrets.

I'll build my own "Secret Howff" and invite everyone on here round for a
few drinks except you then.
