  1. Greetings,

I've only ridden hardtails without suspensions. I'd like to buy a
more capable bike for trails. Are non-cometitive XC bikes what I
should look at? I'm not going to race or try too technical terrains.

I was looking at the Giant Web site. I couldn't figure out which
bikes would fit my needs. The XTC, AC, or NRS? Could somebody comment
    on their line-up?

    Thanks.

What style of riding do you do? Long distances? Trails? Drops and
jumps? Big drops and big jumps? Smooth trails or rocky/rooty trails?
Hww much do you want to spend?

NRS= more suitable for distance and smoother trails. Relatively light
weight but can handle a few knocks.
XTC= no rear suspension. Suitable for anything. Lighter weight can
take the knocks, good pedalling efficiency up hills.
AC=short distances, built for rough downhills and jumps/drops. Heavier
and robust. A pig to pedal up hills.

From what little you've told us, take a closer look at the NRS
(suspension) or the XTC (front suspension only).

Take a look at www.bikemagic.com , lots of bike reviews and good advice
(not that there isn't here !) helped me narrow down my choice of ride.

  4. Thanks for the reply.

I think just trails (rocky ones too), but no jumps -- I still need to
figure out what kind of riding I will do. I can spend $1,000 or a bit
    more.

Based on your comments, I think the Giant NRS and XTC should be
considered. What kind of riding are the new Masetro models (I am
thinking of the Reign and Trance) for?

    Thanks again.

  5. Thank you Adam.

That's an awesome site. I will check out the reviews and the beginner's
    forum.
If only they had a FAQ...

  6. My pleasure.

You'll find on most bike forums and websites that the question "What bike
should I get with my $$$£££?" is a FAQ in itself !
