  1. I've got about 4 weeks until I participate in a 4-day charity ride (will be riding between 500-800 kilometres).

I would like to know about the rides I should do the week before the charity ride (starts on a Thursday). Starting backwards, which day would I put my last ride in and for how long / how intense, and what about the 7 or so days before? It's a long weekend here the Sat-Mon before the ride.

    Thanks.

  2. Let me ask another question...is it a good idea to ride 85% of longest day about 5 days before ride (longest day is 185km, other 3 are 100km each). How about 2 weeks before ride?

  3. This isn't my area, but tapering is a good idea the week before an event. Back off the time and distance but keep the intensity up until the previous few days, then rest. Then perhaps an easy ride with a couple of semi-hard efforts to open up the legs the day before.

On the distance, some recommend 2/3 the longest distance, some recommend 3/4, while others recommend 120% depending on the distance of the event. As the longest day is 185 I would go with either 2/3 or 3/4 but certainly not the week before the event as that should be when you are tapering.
