Anyone have any comments about this products 'scientific' basis?

Hi Helen ,that is identical to the bread improver used in the baking industry. Functionally if we
will dissect each ingredient purpose for informational reason:
1)Soya flour contributes to the bread crumb whitening by also improving grain uniformity, as well as
improve a bit the dough stability.
    2)emulsifier 472(usually coded an E number of 472e which means DATEM(diacetyltartaric acid
monoesters of monoglycerides) a notable dough strenghtener and will dramatically improve bread
volume even in the absence of gluten.
3)calcium sulphate , actually added as a filler but it contributes to the improvement of water
conditions used in baking;that is if the water is soft which is undesirable for bread baking by
supplying the necessary hardness suited which will bind to the gluten protein and improve dough
    performance.
    4) sucrose, basically a yeast food contributes initial fermentable sugar while the amylase enzymes
are still converting the starches to dextrins then to sugars which is just in time the
sucrose(present in the improver and flour) is depleted.
    5) ascorbic acid ; a dough conditioner or interpreted in bakery parlance as an oxidant, can improve
    dough strength and baking stability.
    6) amylase enzyme usually a blend of fungal and cereal(barley) origin.contributes fermentable sugar
by converting damaged starches to sugar maltose a two step process. Regarding the dosage;you said
that the recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon per 500 gram flour which is fair for normal breadmaking
requires extended fermentation,( about a few hours totally) and lower for the baking industry
standard of 1 1/2 to tsp per 500 gram flour(which requires shorter fermentation time). Indeed you
are using a high quality bread improver;I hope you are happy with its performance . Roy

Sounds good other than the 5htp. Calling 5htp (natural l-tryptophan) I think is a bit misleading
though. The body turns l-tryptophan into 5htp and that is turned into serotonin.

I drink milk at night and try to eat foods that are high in tryptophan. I find that it does have a
calming effect on me. SSRI's overload my system and make me very ill by giving me more serotonin
than my body needs or wants.

According to the USRDA most people do not get enough calcium Magnesium and Zinc.

When I analyzed my diet I discovered I was not getting enough calcium, magnesium or zinc. I take a
supplement that has all three in it. I also exercise regularly.

Exercise and meditation have a very calming effect on people.

This supplement might be a good thing for people who are too lazy to do their own research or to eat
    properly though.

    LOL

I am *not* too lazy to do my own research, nor eat properly.

    I do both.

No matter how properly I eat. I can't get needed amounts of vitamins and minerals by diet alone.

(I think perhaps the SSRI suppressed prod of enzymes needed to metabolize food, enzymes I was
already low in...and now have NONE of, permanently...so. )

I take a whole bunch of individual vitamins, which HELP tremendously.

However, taking them upsets my stomanch.

So I keep stopping taking what helps, and trying various multivitamins, that do not help as I
    deteriorate on multivitamins, alarmingly so.

    I don't understand. .

I must not be able to break down ."multivitamins"...

This BeCalmed site. talks about how critical the "synergy" is when manufacturing multi-vitamins.

That's what I am wanting comments on....whether a formula multivitamin can EVER work as well as
taking individual vitamins and minerals do.

OR, do all the M/V Mfg's ADD [censored] to a multivitamin, than is counterproductive/inhibiting to some
peoples being able to metabolize therefore absorb individual vatimains and minerals in them???

(I would post this to MHA, except Mark P. has that NG aflame!)

  18. NUTS--FAT & CALORIES

Nuts contain mostly monounsaturated fat, which doesn't raise blood cholesterol levels. Nuts
are a good source of protein and vitamin E, which some studies suggest may improve the
    immune system.

Nuts contain at least 70% of their calories from fat, so go lightly on amount consumed.

Listed are estimates of regular roasted nuts. Note the label as the amount may vary according to
preparation. For example, some nuts are dry roasted, which significantly can lower fat and
calories. Some nuts are coated with special spices and seasonings, which can increase calories
and fat also. Again, read the label for specific calorie and fat grams per ounce.

  19. Julius back again: Use raw nuts to the extent possible because the roasting destroys much of the
vitamin E. Nor is the very used, very heated oil of the deep fat roasting process a healthy thing.
As to the calories, well, it is the total calorie of your daily diet that counts.

dried raw almonds 1 oz (28 g) contains ~6.72 IU of alpha tocopherol oil roasted almonds 1 oz (28 g)
contains ~1.55 IU dried raw peanuts 1 oz contains ~2.56 IU oil roasted peanuts 1 oz contains ~2.07
dry roasted peanuts 1 oz contain ~2.18

Yes, I know peanuts are not really nuts but I only have numbers on almonds and peanuts at the
moment. These values would no doubt vary in real life due to differences in batches of raw materials
    and type of oil etc.

Your best source of vit E is a good varied wholefood diet. Grains nuts vegetables. Where does
all that fat come in? You don't need any added, refined fat. Moosh🙂

Julius says: Moosh, how much Vit E do you get from your chosen diet? Are you a wheat germ eater?
Do you eat nuts and seeds not counting

    grains?

I think you might even agree with me that too little emphasis was placed on the non alpha vitamin
E isomers, as well as, the non tocopherol

    vitamers.

Yes? No? Or you don't really care because it makes your head hurt😉

As typed this piece, I consume a salad composed of 40 grams of parsley, one red bell pepper, a
half cup of chickpeas, ~30 grams of yellow "low"

For my primary source of vitamin E today, I've eat so far today a half cups of almonds and a half
cup of filberts, plus 30 brazil nuts for all that nasty selenium.

Also eaten a free range chicken leg and can of sardines in louisana hot sauce. A small bowl of
split green pea soup, very thick. One egg. A half cup of homemade blackberry juice and a small
bowl home canned pie cherries... ice cold. A glass of milk 2%. Two small apples.

What have you eaten on your whole food diet?

Oh! Oh! I added 6 gram inositol to the berry juice but of course you

    don't

csx speaks: I certainly have not eaten like that and you clearly are not someone who is trying to
get by on a small disability pension.

Bell peppers in the off season? Basalmic vinegar, Nuts and cheese that is not the diet of a
    poor person.

Posting from the library? You must in the USA with its nearly missing social safety net. But don't
worry Shrubs plans to tax poverty so that there will be less of it.

I'll suggest the best low cost options that come to mind. First, frozen spinach an excellent
carotenoid source including lutien and an excellent vitamin K source. If you have your natural teeth
raw carrots are good in salads. No teeth? Get a dollar store grater and use it on the carrots. If
you still eat red meat or pork, you might consider instead eating canned salmon and cheap sardines.
I paid about a 1.30 US dollar for a house brand can of salmon and about 80 US cent for
3.75 oz Brunwick can of sardines. No waste, no energy used. If one can you open a can? In a true
pinch go to the Mexican food section of the supermarket and buy the super sized oval can of
"sardines" in tomato sauce, these are very cheap. For vitamin C what to suggest? You need
something like peppers (green or red) for vit C perhaps citrus which is a little lower priced.
Both are good sources of flavonoids. What is cheaper? I guess could you eat lots of potatoes and
onions. The former has enough C to prevent scurvy and the later some flavonoids as I recall. For
nuts, consider bulk shelled sunflower seeds which can fairly cheap, great source of some B vits,
magnesium, and E. Can't chew them? Cook them in your brown rice or even soak them till soft.

Hopefully, you aren't living on Top Ramen (noodles and hydrogenated grease). Some say some poorer
old folks live on dried dog food!! Still no vitamin C.

It is a hard world. Lots of promises and glowing phrases and so it goes from bad to verse.
