Beach road surface - stones

Geez I hope that it is going to be 'smoothed out!' You can almost hear the 'ahhhh....' as the group hits the smoother surface coming out of Frankston!
Should be a lot better than that! Perhaps they are relying on the cars to smooth out the surface...

Come across the Tasman and go cycling in New Zealand. Anywhere outside urban areas, and non-major suburban streets is all coarse stone chip. You really need carbon forks on aluminium bikes here, and a carbon seat post is a nice option as well.

I've just revisited this stretch after absence through injury, and was suprised at the engineering talents of those the chose to cover the hotmix with the course agregate topping brrrrrrr. Not even Carbon can help! I don't recall there being anything wrong with the beach side of the this section of the road in the 1st place. I've dropped a line to BV to find out more (if any) on this feat. Dooh! Otherwise, I can only assume that the locals found the previous cover slippery when wet😕

Similar thing has happened near here. I think they just lay a new surface and then let the traffic gradually smooth it out. Kills my chuddies but it's probably cheaper than the high quality sm00th stuff.

Oh we're talking crappy road surfaces on the "must-ride" cycling roads?

I nominate the Kew Boulevarde... the bike lanes haven't been paved since forever, except for that one corner of absolute riding bliss... (you know the one I mean!)

Yep, and what about the BV inspired bike lane that makes it completely impossible to get a group through safely, increases the risk of hitting runners, that cars park in anyway, and that cost a hell of a lot of money??!?!?

I now continue to ride the full length of Railway Pde and along Fortesue Ave into Overton Rd where it meets back up with the Nepean.
