Beach Road Crash this morning!

Just been told (third hand) about a crash this morning on the quarter to six North Road group... and a workmate just rang to say he is not coming into work as a result (mangled bike or something)..but did not have time to give me the details... does anyone know what happened?

hope its not like the monumental a North Road bunch had at Hampton on BchRd. once...29 down - 9 ambulances...ouch!.....

anyone know any more on today's??

yep saw it all, parked car and the message didn't make it to the back
half of the bunch and so a couple of riders plowed in to it, followed
by a few more on top. thankfully every one got up except one poor
girl and they called her an ambulance.

if you are going to be bunch fodder, i guess these thing happen, but i
think everyone will be stiff and sore, but i hope ok in the end.

I came past just after (in another huge bunch) and couldn't figure out why the downed cyclist was behind the car. Now it makes sense.

Fortunately a couple of runners yelled to the bunch that there was an accident ahead and everyone got around safely.

Not sure why people aren't more vocal in bunch's, I know I try to be and call every rider parked car, car back as much as possible.

That bunch is the one that goes easy to Mordi, then hammers back up
Beach Rd, right? There'd be riders on it chewing their stems and not
paying attention to anything but the wheel in front.

It wasn't the main north road bunch but some other group. Edit: it says at the top that it was the 545 bunch - i understand that they are on the same schedule as the 600 group (ie. tue = hard) The earlier bunch was started as some of the older guys who were supposed to be more sensible.

I find that the hard days have less stem chewing than wednesday which is more mixed ability and does take people over there limit. Wednesday is the easy down hard back day and the bunch drops many more people than a hard day tue/thu.

Yes there are other ways of doing intervals but they don't prepare you for where you will need the intervals (in a race with other people around you).

these rides are getting worse and worse, with the increasing sizes of the bunches, and the varied ability and experience of the participants.

They make racing look safe!!

Mind you, I'll probably be down there tonight:p

was up the front of that bunch this morning and I remember "yelling out nice and loud, CAR" as did the guy on my left hand side, so not sure what happened, but remember seeing it and thinking, glad I am up at the front, what made it worse was there was a stream of cars passing on the right as well, just as the group was going past, I remember, because I could see the eyes of the passenger in the car as I had pulled out slightly to make room, I was at the back of the pack all the way to Mordiallac, but moved up from there, because the riders at the back, make me very nervous and dont seem to be watching what is happening ahead.

those rides are good, as they tend to push me harder then I will push myself.

*sigh* hope everyone is alright.
