  1. I got to thinking, which usually leads to trouble...

    BB30 cranks need to be used in a BB30 frame. Zipp vumaquad cranks are BB30 but they use a proprietary BB cup-set to work in a standard 68mm threaded BB shell.

    My question is would it be possible to use any BB30 crankset with the Zipp BB in a standard threaded BB shell frame?

    According to Zipp their BB is only compatible with their Vumaquad crankset (I'm not surprised by that statement).

    Any thoughts or suggestions. I realize that the only way to know is to try fitting everything together but I'm not willing to take on that challenge just yet.

  2. Zipp is not TRUE BB30, in that it uses an external BB setup not a BB30 frame/BB setup. It does use the same 6806 bearings and 30mm axel though, hence they allude to BB30.

    There is no reason you couldn't use the Zipp BB as long as you had an axel that would interface with your cranks. You would have a wide wider Q though. I'm not 100% if the vuma quads have a through axel bonded to one crank or 3 piece like square taper BBs.
    If it is a 2 piece design then you could make another crank to work, but unlikely you could make something off the shelf work without some customising. If a 3 piece design just use the same spline design on a different and your there, but even less likely to get something to work off the shelf.
