BB removal- broken teeth

    I found a nice frame with the bottom bracket in it. I sanded, grinded, primered, sanded, primered,
    sanded, finish coated, etc., etc., but when I went to remove the bottom bracket, which is a Shimano,
    most of the plastic teeth broke off the retaining cups.

    I did a search of this news group to see how people may have dealt with this in the past. I found no
    previous posts. Any ideas?

    Incidentally, I thought leaving the bb in there would be a good way to keep paint from gumming up
    the threads. I could just leave it in there, but the crank set I want to put on the bike needs a
    longer spindle. Plus I have no idea how old this bottom bracket is, and since this type is not
    serviceable, they have a limited life span.

    If you can help me get a grip on this thing, I will be appreciative.

    Remove the other side and then just break the plastic ring. If your model is the one with the
    plastic ring glued to the cartridge, remove the other side and then heat the BB with a heat gun (
    hair dryer) , tap on the end of the spindle until the cartridge falls through, and then break the
    plastic ring.

    Funny thing, when I cut-and-pasted the above I got:

    Thanks, and I'll try A Muzi's suggestions as well. I will report back on any other broken teeth in
    case I get it unstuck and have my face in the way of the wrench.
