Hello all, I recently bought a Truvativ 5d MTB crank (square taper) as well as a non-major brand cartridge BB to use with it. After assembly, I discovered I'd mistakenly assumed I had a 68mm shell width, and after measuring, found it to be a 73. (It seemed odd to me that though the BB I'd bought was too small for my shell dimension, it actually placed the chainrings too far outboard from where they should have been, creating an absolutely horrible chainline.) I've since bought the correct size Shimano BB--guessing that perhaps it was the fault of the BB make--but was reading in the Truvativ instructions that their crankset is only compatible with Truvativ BB's. I'd assumed this was equivalent to a Chevy dealer advising owners to use only "genuine GM parts". Now I'm wondering whether the Shimano BB will work. Any experience with this?
I've used Truvativ square taper cranks with Shimano BBs and no-name Shimano-compatible BBs. No problems at all. As far as I know, Truvativ cranks are designed to fit the Shimano taper...
