My son and I wanted to go again this year, but family matters took over.

Did you encounter any rain? Or did you get done early enough? Afternoon
rains were evidently horrendous in VB and points north.

Well they closed the bridge to bikers at about 1 or 1:30pm, b/c of an
alleged 'tornado' threat. Check out the CBBT page and go to the comments
    section for more on that.

We had a great time. Definitely want to get there at about 7-7:30 for the
best ride. (I was -very- surprised that people were still arriving at noon.

Coming from the south, and about 5 miles from the bridge, we left VB at
about 6:40. We got there at about 7:20 and there were already half a dozen
riders on the bridge by that time.

Good mix of biker types though, all ages, some in 'kit', some in long pants
and street clothes and leather shoes, and every type of bike imaginable
from fixies, to BMX, to tricycles, 'bents, and even a four-wheeler!

Thanks for the report. Sorry I missed you 🙂

My daughter and I enjoyed the ride, too. We made it to the bridge around
    9:30.

Nice read, Badger! It sounds like an interesting ride across that bridge. I
hope you plan for two loops next time 🙂

What are you bicycling goals for next year?

We got back from the ride about 9:15, and by 9:30 were headed back to Va
Beach. Good thing, too, b/c I hear traffic ended up with a 1-2 hour delay
    in some areas.

Hope you enjoyed the ride, and missed the bad weather that hit later in the
    day.

PS be sure to check out the comments on the cbbt page. There's a link to a
large collection of photos that one person took documenting the ride.

The most fun was having a nice view, and no cars! It really had a
dream-like quality and was over -much- too soon. We had planned two loops,
but my brother wasn't up to it due to a minor back injury (plus he works
full-time at his business (vinyl siding)). What we should have done was
ride out and then back to the top of the first span, then turned around and
gone back out. That would have added an easy 8-10 miles or so to the ride.

Next year? More of the same, I suppose. I'll be riding all through the
winter and hope to enter some more group rides. I'd like to plan something
within easy driving distance from my 'rent's house in Newport News -
there's an interesting ride that involves taking the ferry from Jamestown
    to the start in Suffolk.

    Thanks for the comments!

We stayed at the hotel near the bridge so we avoided the traffic backup. We
were just coming off the bridge when it started to sprinkle. We put on the
rain jackets just in case in started to pour but really didn't need them.
By the time the bad weather hit we were on our way north to find some food
    and shopping.
