  1. I've just received the following on the CTC West mailing list. I'll let
you know if there's any relevant follow up.

I'm going back to work tomorrow (Tuesday) after a week away, so I don't
know if there's been any more fishing line recently. I didn't see any
for the week and a half after lots of people saw me posing for photos
for the Bristol Observer. I'm still catching up on urc, so if there are
any posts in other threads that I ought to respond to I'll do so after
    I've caught up.

Subject: [ctcwest] Bristol-Bath Path - Police Advice

For Information - please forward to Bristol-Bath path users. I am only
acting as messenger - please do not reply to me, though you may wish to
    discuss in the Smartgroup.

Mary and I were cycling along the Bristol-Bath path yesterday evening
when we were stopped by 2 police constables who advised us not to use
the path, for personal safety reasons. They told usthat there have been
several robberies with violence (use of knife) on or near the path
during the past week, including an assault (broken jaw) on an elderly
lady just two hours previously at Lawrence Hill. The police did not
specify how far towards Bath their advice applies, but did say to avoid
the path at all times of day until the offenders are apprehended. They
were hopeful that this would happen soon, and do appear to be taking the
situation seriously - I have noted a police presence on the path several
times during the last week, which is not normally the case.

    Regards,
    Dave Baxandall

So, when people are assaulted on roads do the police advise others
not to use the roads for some amount of time?

I will always explain revoked keys, unless the UK government
prevents me by using the RIP Act 2000.

If you happen to know the muggers so you can identify them so well, Graham,
perhaps you should be informing the police. If not, why are you assuming the
    muggers are immigrants?

Let's face it it's Bristol. The Police have their hands tied these days, but
have already shown that most muggings are carried out by Blacks,
Afrio-Carribeans or whatever the in name is these days. If the Police were
allowed to get on with their job without allthe political interference then
crime would be way down. If all people who are Afro-Carribean or African
were deported to-morrow crime would drop dramatically.

That's what they claim. However, there is no evidence of this given
that at least the last three Home Secretaries have been police
poodles constantly tilting the balance in favour of the police.

    Really.

    All crimes, or just some?

Seconded. They respond nicely to the old "point and stare" technique,
    though. Fazes them beautifully.

So, when people are assaulted on roads do the police advise others
not to use the roads for some amount of time?

There are precedents for the police advising members of the public to
avoid certain areas including roads for example when a serial rapist
is active where females are advised not to travel alone.
I'm not familiar with the Bristol area but I would certainly
prefer to be warned that robberies were taking place so I could make
my own judgement on whether to use it depending on the time of day and
whether or not I was cycling alone.

What a stupid thing to say!

If all teenagers were incarcerated tomorrow, crime would drop
    dramatically.
