Nope. He has never had such a strong incentive and such great form to show.
He should do very well but I don't know if it will be enough to beat LA. I
would love to see Basso take another stage. The good news is that there is
no reason to think Basso can't win. His weakness in ITTs is thought to be
related to his poor TT position and that should not hurt him tomorrow. .

My guess is that it will be a very mental stage tomorrow. Basso and
Armstrong seem to be well matched in the mountains. When they see
each other they know when they need to push harder. Up Alpe D'Huez
they'll only have updates on each other's time checks. IMHO this puts
Armstrong at an advantage since he'll be starting after Basso.

Lance will put some, but not a lot of, time on Ivan on the Alpe. More
to the point, it is likely that Ullrich is going to do REALLY well
here because he has no other choice than to go all out. This should
put Jan in third place which he will absolutely smash into Basso in
the final TT.

Wind tunnel or no wind tunnel I don't think that Basso yet has the
sort of attitude that will allow him to push himself to his limits
holding a full tuck. But I do believe that we can see a future winner
today.

I think Jan will go bollock's out tomorrow and win by a decent margin. It
won't be enough to make much of a difference to the top 2 podium places but
there's no way he'll settle for being 6+ minutes behind.

Knowing my luck, mind, he'll probably fall off on the first bend....

As you can see, I said it was an advantage to Basso, not OVER Lance, but it
may make it closer. If it was a flat ITT, I think that would really favor
Lance. Basso has been looking very strong on the hills and that may be a
help. There is not enough information out there to know how well Basso will
do. I am looking forward to finding out.

Just outside Bourg, at the start of the road up the mountain (D211) near
the crossing with the N91.
