  1. I think it might be an idea to get a basic road bike so that I can go on a
few club rides and hope to keep up. I'll be wanting indexed shifting, and
something that can put up with 15 stone of me wobbling around on it. Will
that £200 bike I've seen mentioned on here do, or are there better second
    hand options?

I posted stuff about this Saturday. At the risk of boring folks, here it is
    again.

Not 200ukp but 270. Very good value.

You should be able to get a solid secondhand road bike for £200. May
not be STi/Ergo equiped nor the lightest machine but hey, you want
basic. I would prefer a good basic bike with decent components than a
cheap bike with low end components, especially for a second (or third)
bike. For £200 I would look for secondhand rather than a new budget
    model.

I went straight to it - it never asked me for a password. I googled for
    halesowen cycles to find it.

It's working now. Did ask me for a password last time. Strange.

Dawes Giro 200 seems to be the £270 job -- looks all right, except the
flat bars spoil it, I think.

I have a Carrera Virtuoso for my 2nd bike, I used it as a 1st bike last summer and it was faultless, a brilliant little bike. Once ive bought some clipless pedals for it I will be using it as a winter bike for training and keeping fit. I bought it from Halfords last spring, and i was dead lucky as I only had to pay £150 for it, complete bargain. They stated that it was found out in the back of the warehouse and been forgotten about, thats why they was selling it off so cheap not that there was anything wrong with it. I think they normally retail at £250+, might be a newer model now. Reccomended!!
