barcon/handlebarbar fit issues....

I would not "remove" any metal. How old are your handlebars? I would
find one with a wider ID. Sheldon Brown has several Nittos that would
work:

The B601 bar is pretty interesting. There's a picture on this page:

Reaming the bar is a potentially easier problem, but I'd worry about
the end of the reamed portion forming a stress riser and cracking under
load.

I've installed barcons on thick-wall handlebars by turning down the
threaded stud and hand-filing the tapered wedges (parts 4 and 5 in this
Shimano PDF: http://tinyurl.com/c7e8a . The Campy website doesn't show
a separate part number for these items.) I did this with a hand-held
drill and a half-round file. It worked fine, even though the body of
the shift lever protruded from the handlebar.

Handlebars that fit both mountain-bike brake levers *and* bar-end
shifters are a sticky wicket. In the recumbent community, they're
either steel or reserved for over-seat steering bikes, like these from

bar is new and the barcons are new old stock. also...this Nitto bar
was purchased because of it's shape. i'll mount it in reverse and use
in a tri bar fashion on a commuter. i just didn't like all the odd
shapes to tri bars and the thin walled tubing used on said bars.
