At one time I used to commute on a bike, with a back pack full of my daily needs. It was a drag. I got it as light and as minimal as I could, cycling with a TV and a heater hanging around my neck sounds about as much fun as keep umbrellas as lounge chairs.

Now I train pretty seriously. When we go out for long rides. it's just one water bottle ( 500ml ), I hydrate before I train ! and I found bananas weight to much so I take just 5 dates, six would be to heavy.

I have the banana before I leave.

Really though, loose the TV, get a good book, better still a good cycle training book. Watch TV by all means, but don't take it cycling !

PS Ausie soaps ? never watched them never will, make that all soaps !

  2. My problem is I work very long hours and often think about throwing in the job due to the lack of time. This week I have over 70 hours simply because many other employees dislike doing nights. My bike is my only means of transport which is why I have resorted to packing 2 rucksacks with a fan-fire (if it's cold) and small T.V. I do take books as well, though, since I study during my shift. I also took a book by Lance Armstrong with me last week and read it through.
I saw a T.V. in a shop that's not much bigger than a mobile phone so I guess I should buy one to cut down my weight on the bike.
Unfortunately I'm so pressed for time of late the only way I can train on the bike is to increase intensity. I can't get in any heavy mile-time on a 70 hour week so today I'll be sprinting like hell up a very long hill till my lungs pump up with air. I'll also be riding at 6.00 a.m. sharp on the way back from work (no excess baggage by that time).
My job is sedate so it's essential I ride my bike hard to make up for the time spend sitting about. The other guys don't seem to realise how important this is since they don't ride a bike and many end up with blood-pressure or other fitness related problems.
I don't want to give the impression my job is all bad, though. It's good for studying and the stress level is pretty low (apart from sleep constraints). I will also have plenty of money to spend on a dream roadbike which I will most certainly buy when I'm good enough to deserve something awesome. For now I have a pretty good roadbike but, like I say, I fancy something phenomenal in the future with a triple gear.
