Bad or no signal

    Bloody ITV digital.

    I've had problems with ITV and Channel 4 digital reception ever since
    the channel numbers were rejigged last September (ITV1, 2, 3, 4, C4 & E4
    all broadcast on the same digital frequency, apparently). My new aerial
    had given me reasonable reception again - until this afternoon's
    thunderstorm.

    So, no TdF highlights for me today. The message on screen alternated
    between "Bad or no signal" and "This channel is scrambled or
    unavailable", interspersed with the occasional few seconds of picture :-(

    Fortunately, I'd recorded the live coverage on ITV3 before the storm,
    but I'd rather have just watched the highlights (and the interviews
    afterwards). I've just downloaded the ITV podcast, so I'll listen to
    that at work tomorrow and hope it includes a few interviews etc.

    Reception's back to normal now, so hopefully the stage 2 highlights will
    be OK.

    Digital is fine in this part of the world, but did find out we required a
    new aerial last year. Once we got that sorted - no problems.

    Ah - is that what it was? I had a few minor interruptions, but I'm much
    nearer to the Mendip transmitter than you are!

    The sensitivity or model of the receiver makes a difference to reception
    as well as signal strength and your aerial. With just the odd break-up, I
    get a Goodmans* receiver working off an indoor aerial, whereas I get
    nothing from a Pace receivier with the same aerial in the same place (the
    Pace receiver is fine with an outdoor aerial on the same house).

    * Will post model number if anyone's interested. It's not an especially
    good model altogether, but it /might/ be a solution if you live in a
    low-signal-strength area -- I don't but I suppose I'm simulating that with
    the indoor aerial.
