Letting Vinokurov get ahead of him on Stage 6. Most other riders it would be
no big deal, but Vino is a serious threat to him in my opinion. I am shocked
he let him get away.

I would have thought that one of Armstrong's team would have gone with Vino
to try to take the time bonus instead of him or at least lessen the bonus.
Perhaps the crash had something to do with it, but it didn't look that way.

It looked like Vino went and there was no immediate reaction from any of the
Discovery boys. Whether or not the crash prevented any of them from
bridging ...........................

That's what I saw. They must have been figuring that Vino couldn't get away
from the sprinters in the final straightaway. not to take chances and let
the sprinters reel him in.

Discovery should be marking him better than that.

How about "good move by Vino."

There's an obvious conflict between marking a contender up the road and
looking after your principal behind a crash. Especially when you have 2
seconds to make the decision.
Someone elseasked about T-Mobile's strategy for the Alps. What are
Discovery going to do if Jan goes up the road again? The Kloden, while
Vino just sits there...?

Be careful, you're showing perspective...
Apparently, Lance didn't see the move. And although it probably won't make
much difference in the long run, it's exactly the reason why Vino is such a
good rider, and probably the biggest threat to Lance. He's not afraid to
attack, ever. Great move.

Shades of Sydney in 2000.

Well, if it's early enough in the stage, he'll succumb to the climbs
and be caught like almost any other breakaway by the steady pace of the
Discovery chase. And everyone knows that Jan isn't going to jump off
the front of the pack at the bottom of any final climbs.

Dumbass -
They'll bring him back.
Jan's not what he used to be.
thanks,

Jeff, I'm going to call Lance's comment as [censored].
When Vino attacks, he looks back. The guys on the front just look at
him and as the FdJ guy peels right, for a split second on the live feed,
you see Lance in about 3rd wheel looking right at Vino.
Lance was well back in the peloton at the crash, you can see Ullrich
through and riding and Lance just visible on the inside corner behind a
Liquigas rider.
Discovery screwed up.

Johan didn't issue orders fast enough over the radio. These guys have lost
the ability to think and do it quickly. Vino is a known agressive rider from
whom this type of tactic could be predicted. One would think that Discovery
would have assigned one rider to cover him---as opposed to Jan who only
attacks himself.

dumbass,
i wouldn't be surprised it hincapie drops jan in the climb. he put time
into ullrich in the TT, and they probably weigh about the same at the
moment.

You can use the pace with respect to the time schedules to measure the
intensity of the pace setting.
Years ago when Indurain and Rominger were going at it, I remember someone
complaining that Rominger never attacked in the mountains. Then someone
pointed out that the mountain stages were running hugely ahead of schedule
because of Banesto's nasty pace setting. Which meant that Rominger never
had a chance to attack.
Discovery is way more loaded than Banesto ever was. If they are at the
front and are ripping people's legs off then there will be no point to an
early move.
Set your alarm for Tuesday at the base of the climb to Courchevel. Sleep
until then.

Absolutely! Ferrari taught George how to fly by training him along with
Armstrong (see, Coyle's book. ). :-)

WTF was Armstrong gonna do? It's not like he was in a long distance
break and could really put time into the yellow jersey. They weren't
going to "reel him in" as a group.
I thought the whole group was gonna get ST with the crash being there.
And let's say Armstrong or the team did go after him and beat the
turn, avoid crashing and chase him down. All that risk for what? The 7
seconds? He would have had to beat Vino to avoid that bonus.
Considering they are in no hurry to even keep the yellow, 19 seconds
is a non factor compared to the risk of wet roads, wet paint and quack
city. Even if it is a GC contender.
