  1. Hello All...

I have just recently started running and am suffering from BAD cotton
mouth whether I am at the gym or in the neighborhood.

What do you all do to battle cotton mouth? Are there any "real"
products to help or a "houshold remedy" that I can use?

Do you all even get cotton mouth or is it just me?🙂

Thank you...actually, my mouth thanks you!

    David

    ....

Try popping in a hard candy.
    They're easy to carry too.
I find this useful on long hikes.

  8. I do not want to carry a bottle of water, I do not want to carry candy

  10. Are you breathing through your mouth?
That may indicate you are training too
hard if you breath too hard.
Its OK to do for racing spurts but shouldnt
need to do it all the time.

Rick, you are an idiot. Mouth breathing is required for running,
    unless you like turning purple.

If you don't want to carry fluids while you run (although I'd suggest
it for runs lasting longer than 60 minutes), make sure you stay
properly hydrated throughout the day. Also just before you start your
run take in a good quantity of fluids. For runs up to 60 minutes I
drink about 20 oz of a fluid replacement drink about 5 minutes before.
You'll have to experiment with the amount you can handle as well as
what type of sports drink works best. Plain water might be OK, but
sports drinks are designed to be easily absorbed by the body.

Absolute STUPIDITY! If you do this you'll likely end up with side
stitches, cramps, upset stomach, and stiff muscles. Overhydrating is
as bad as underhydrating. You should take in no more than 8ozs of
water every 20 minutes or so, anymore will just cause you problems
    worse than dehydration.
    I'm surprised at you Phil...

I´m taking the risk and assuming that *this time* you have actually
tried to be helpful (by warning against what you genuinely believe to
    be a bad advice).

"Just before" is perhaps a tad too late, if misinterpreted, but
drinking a good amount (easily up to 0.5 litres) about fifteen minutes
before is neither harmful or stupid: "to increase stomach-intestinal
flow and overall absorption of water you need to deposit a fair amount
of fluid in your stomach just before you begin".

Unless you are stupid enough to go straight into 3K pace, you won´t
really notice that you have "overhydrated".

The time to avoid drinking (a lot) is, roughly, from two hours to
fifteen minutes before, if only to avoid peeing stops.

OTOH the cotton mouth thing probably stems from being underhydrated
before running, and to correct that you have to drink more during the
    day.
