Pretty simple really. But (ruling out mechanical failure*) it's disgustingly
reckless to not even be able to take evasive action after hitting the first
one. Especially in a relatively light car (with a two star pedestrian impact
EuroNCAP rating). (Notwithstanding the fact that one of the things that
[censored] me off about the writeup was the fact the model of car was named.)

The BBC says (s)he is in hospital. It also says that the "car was in
collision with the group" and not the other way round.

hitting one, if the cyclists were riding as a closely spaced group, two
abreast, then it's not much different hitting four to hitting one -
except for the result.

saw the BBC's web story at 12:30. It hasn't appeared yet - so my
apologies if it makes a late appearance.

And if it doesn't - condolences to those affected by this awful
incident.

slight. How the driver managed to take out 13 cyclists I can only
imagine. Perhaps the driver suffered a serious and sudden illness at

I too, at first thought that the make of the car was irrelevant. But
it may trigger the memory of a witness, or reassure friends and
relatives that it wasn't someone they know who was responsible for the
carnage.

This sort of proves a point. If to say that the "group was in
collision with a car" is absurd, then, surely, so it is to say that "a
cyclist was in collision with a car".

Driver was injured. I have just heard on BBC news 24. Four cyclists,
three adults, one child, killed, one other with a broken leg from a
group of 12 on an A road in N.Wales, still closed for the accident
investigation. The driver was injured.

Absolutely shocking.

I'm trying to figure out how the car was "heading towards Towyn" when the
the A547 does not actually *go* to Towyn! (it goes to Rhuddlan) Perhaps it
was the A54*8* rather than the 547?
