After 20 years of backpackin with me 65 litre Berghaus sac, i have, over the years, gradually reduced gear weight/bulk to a point where i reckon i can manage with a 50 litre sac. The funny thing is that me sac is the heaviest single item i carry!! Sac 1800g - Tent 1700g :-( So annoying!!!
Anyway; im after a sac that certainly weighs less than 1800g! Am i askin to much for a 1000g - 1500 sac?
Can anyone advise please
PS Will be in the ODG tue and wed nt. If anyone wants to buy me and me girlfreind a beer(im the 50 yo bald ruggedly handsome one) i certaily wouldn't offend by refusal;-)
I use the 35l model and have been very pleased with it. I wouldn't want to use it scrambling though, unless I want an expensive set of ribbons for some reason!
Golite specialise in light stuff, have a look at http://www.golite.com/products/departments.asp?maincategory=1&type=U for their models. Looks like a good selection in your weight range. I've not tried any of them, but IIRC Chris Townsend has said Nice Things about one or more models.

Have a look at the Osprey Atmos-50. It has had some very positive reviews recently. Weighs 1.3kg

I'm in a similar position, without the 20 years experience though :-) and I want a sack large enough to be out for a week.
I've been looking at Go-lite (Trek) and Gregory who seem to made a name for themselves for lightweight packs -
The Gregory G-Pack and Z Pack are award winning 50l packs.
Golite Gust (59 + 17l, 570g) has had good reviews. Beware the Golite UK distributor (search Google Groups for details) is [censored] at answering emails.
Choosing a short list is the easy bit - seeing whether they fit is the difficult bit but I'd expect online/mail order companies to have a sensible returns policy.

No but the issue will be whether it can carry the weight you require in comfort.

I tracked down one of the reviews I was thinking of, in the Aug TGO by Chris Townsend. He starts by saying he has never liked packs with mesh- tensioned back panels and sprung frames that hold the load away from your back. After giving it a tough test ski touring and scrambling he was won over and says it felt more comfortable than most other packs. He ends by saying the price is high, but this is one of the best 50 litre packs available.
