  1. For those who care,I mentioned a few weeks back that I'd
just had major abdominal surgery, and since it was unplanned
(emergency) I was all bummed about the timing, with the
    season approaching.

However, I just saw the surgeon and I'm healing perfectly
and everything looks great. I can start resuming physical
activity six weeks after the surgery date, which puts it
about 2 weeks from now. Yeah! So I won't miss too much of
the season. Lately, however, the weather has been horrible
    and it snowed last night.

Of course, I'll have to take it easy when I get back to the
bike.. I've lost weight and been nearly inactive since
march 10. So I'll have to get slowly back into things. As
soon as I can I'll start limbering up with yoga. I'm
looking at this pasty person and thinking ecccch! A blind
dead man would run away from me screaming into the night!

  2. That's OK Marlene, we love you anyway.

I am a year-round transportational cyclist. As I was being
wheeled by stretcher into the operating room for abdominal
surgery- I asked the surgeon when I could ride my cycle
next. He hesitated for a while, and then I explained that it
was a tadpole recumbent trike and he brightened visibly and
said "The next day!" Thinking he was kidding, I asked again.
He said, "No really- if you are riding something like that-
get started again right away". Being a bit of a wimp, I
waited three days after abdominal surgery for my first ride.

I am glad to hear you are recovering rapidly. Cyclists tend
to do that. It's probably our good circulation? Sorry about
the weather! I'll think of you as I ride thru the cherry
blossoms littering the streets 😉 Stay well, Bernie

  5. Glad to hear you are doing well!! Being back on the road will be a wonderful thing. Where do you live? The New England area?

Hence my profound confusion upon reading your subject line.

Think of how faster you'll be on hills, what with the weight
you've lost! (Not that it matters much in Mtl, though.)

Do you know montreal? I don't know where you're from but
it's famous for hills- we have a mountain in the middle of
the city. However, i won't be tackling the hills for a bit.

However, everyone is griping about their winter weight, and
I've lost weight. Thanks to a quick easy, weight loss plan:

INtestinal surgery! Followed by: Intravenous feeding! And...
a liquid diet! Supplemented by: Inedible hospital food! And
    concluded with: Appetite suppressing narcotics!

Truth is, I didn't need to lose that weight. As we all know,
many cyclists are on the slender side and don't need to be
any thinner, and also it's not the same as losing weight
from training. You lose strength too. However, my appetite
is returning to normal, in time to stuff my little face with
    chocolate easter eggs!

Yeah, *one*. And no matter where you want/need to go, you
can always go around it. First time I was on the south
shore, I almost yelled "wheee!" when going down an overpass
-- that was as much fun as you could have in an area that's
    as flat as a pancake.

Me, I'm from Sherbrooke, so I know a thing or two about
    hills. <g>

Anytime I've ever lost more than 5 pounds, it's always been
due to stress, being sick, or some other
physiological/psychological [censored]. Though I have to admit my
stories don't compare to yours. 🙂

    (I remember a board game put out by Croc -- a now-defunct
humor magazine -- that involved going across different
Quebec cities. Sherbrooke was described as being renowned
for its "80-degree hills" and was illustrated with a cyclist
    tumbling downhill.)

Geez,I forgot all about Croc. Yes, the south shore is pretty
flat. However, the hilly streets in the city are popular
among cyclists, especially the hilly streets of wealthy
westmount. Cyclists can be seen torturing themselves on
    those streets every day!
