  1. Thanks to the kindness of Ian McNeill @ wheelsgoround I'm back on the
road with a nice free-hub wheel. So far, so good! It's amazing how much
I've relapsed in two months off the road, though. I've been huffing on a
slope that I didn't have problems with at all last time out.

Thanks also to those who gave advice on glassess mirrors. I went for the
Take-a-Look in the end, from psmc @ ukonline.co.uk . Great service,
arrived 48 hours after I ordered, 13.25 UKP inc. P&P with a CTC
discount. The mirror is the dog's danglies. Took me 10 minutes to get
used to, and I need to squint my left eye to focus properly, but it's an
absolute delight to be able to see behind me at all times, without
having to turn round. It's very adjustable, too - pitch and yaw.

Two months because of a broken hub?

Well, not exactly. There was a couple of weeks of procrastination, a
couple of weeks of dithering, a couple of weeks of pondering, a week of
waiting, and a week having stuff to do and of it pissing down and not
fancying it. It all adds up. 🙂

That's appalling. Go and do 20 miles immediately, sir.

I deliberately over-tightened the hub bearing to give you more of a workout
    :-)

    I did 16.3 🙂

It would have been more, but I decided to take the road route above the
A470 from Abercynon to Pontygwaith, and I'd completely failed to realise
quite how much above it was. I was expecting it to be steep, but not
nearly as long. By the time I got to the top, I didn't fancy going on
any further. I'll certainly be going up there again, though. The view
up past Merthyr to the Brecon Beacons was stunning, and for the first
time, I felt like one of those guys they always photograph in the bike
magazines, on the open road with no trees/walls/hedges on the sides of
    the road.

I double yesterday's praise for the Take-a-Look mirror, btw. I'm so much
more relaxed being overtaken now, which means I feel more comfortable in
the primary position, which means that the cars give me even more room
    than they did before.

Mind you, coming back through Abercynon, I rolled to a halt at a red
light, and the car behind me went straight on through the red.
