  1. Good morning, folks.

For about three months I lost some focus on my weight loss goals, for a
variety of reasons, none terribly interesting. I'm placing weight loss
closer to the top of the priorities list now, and so I'm stepping back in to
    the asdlc community.

The concept of the "inner fat [censored]," which I learned about here, resonates
with me. I have a strong inner fat [censored] and I came pretty close to letting
it take over. Slowly, over a few months, I started eating [censored] again and
stopped exercising. But I am pleased to report that I'm once again
determined to fight it. I sit here this morning, aching from my first sets
of squats in two and a half months, and only five pounds up from the low I
    reached in the spring.

This backslide could have been much worse, and I stopped it before it got
    there.

I am working on a new eating plan that will allow me to eat less without
obsessing. Counting calories has always worked for me, and eating low carb
while counting calories worked very well - but it required for me a level of
vigilance that simply wasn't sustainable. It was fantastic while it was my
obsession du jour, but obsessions pass, and I need a plan that I will stay
with even when the novelty passes.

Right now I am keeping it simple: keep the portions small, avoid most
carbs, practice table push-aways, drink lots of water, head on over to the
gym. I'm keeping a very rough mental tally of calories - very rough, like
rounding to the nearest 100 - but I'm not keeping a journal or using FitDay.
This is the opposite of how I've dieted in the past, where I've preached the
essential value of keeping a food journal. But, I want to try something
different for a while, something that feels more like how "normal" people
eat, and see if it works. It might not maximize the rate of weight loss,
but if it means I can stay on it full time instead of being on and off every
four months, it probably will be speedier in the long run.

Those are my thoughts this morning. For those of you who have emailed or
stopped by the blog, thanks for thinking of me.

  2. I wondered what happened to you, carla.

It seems that a lot of the time when people disappear from the ng it means
they slid off the wagon. That's the main reason I keep coming back. Seeing
others continue to struggle helps me keep my focus, even though it waivers
    from time to time.

Good to have you back (I hope this means you will continue to make a
    presense here) and good luck.

  3. Carla I am glad I am not the only one. I fell off about two months ago and
have gotten back on the bandwagon just Saturday. I too am not logging my
food intake but trying to remember and eat what I did in my first stages of
Atkins. I think I am doing better this time around because I am not eating
much cheese which slows me down if you know what I mean. Now I just have it
on my salad and that's it. No munching on the baby bel or string cheese
    throughout the day.
We are doing the right thing by placing weight loss higher than other things
we do like sit in front of the TV. 😉 So far since Saturday I am 3.5 pounds
down and am feeling great. One more pound and I will be the same weight I
    was at 2 years ago.
I think your doing a great job and I am right there with ya.

    Hugs,

That's just what I keep telling myself, too. Only not as nicely. :-)

That's exactly why I wandered back in. I'm pretty sure I've told this story
here already, but I'll tell it again: when I was in law school, my mom
talked me into going to Weight Watchers meetings. I pooh-poohed the idea at
first - I thought it would be cheesy, goofy, motivational-speech pablum.
And, well, it sort of was. But, it was also incredibly helpful - I was
amazed at how seeing people's successes was inspiring, and hearing people's
creative ideas each week kind of renewed the focus and enabled me to try new
    things to stay on track.

Also, I have to admit (sheepishly), I am a little competitive, so I want to
do better than the folks around me. Even on the newsgroup I try to look
around for someone with stats similar to mine and mentally try to keep up
    with that person.

But at any rate, the newsgroup serves the same purpose that the Weight
Watchers meetings used to serve - so I came back.
