I'm getting back to normal life after a fun-filled two week vacation. My
husband and I are Americans living in Holland for his work, and we really
haven't done much traveling around Europe since we got here. We met some
American friends in London for a few days, then the four of us came back
here to Holland for another week. So I got to be a tourist in two
countries, including the one I live in.
Regarding LC - I stayed carb-conscious during the vacation, but I did not
maintain my normal LC. One thing that was a no-brainer...I knew that I
would feel much better and have a higher energy level if I skipped the
crumpets and jam every morning and ate the meat and cheese slices. So
breakfast at the hotel was easy. Beyond that, I did normal touristy (high
carb) things and drank beer and London pubs and ate pannekoeken in Delft.
No guilt involved, since this was my vacation, and I was out to have fun and
relax.
Some really good news - since I've lost a total of 30 lbs, I don't hate
having my photo taken anymore!! I honestly can't say how long it's been
since I could say that. This has been a point of frustration for my
husband, who likes to take photos...only to have me delete the ones where I
think I look fat (like, all of them). I actually LIKE most of the photos of
me from this vacation, and I even told my husband that he could frame one
and put it on his desk at work. Major progress for me.
Regarding exercise - we walked between 8 and 12 hours a day, every day, only
sitting down for quick meals. We crammed about every tourist spot in London
into our time there. It was so much fun! For those of you who know London,
one day we walked all the way from The Tower to Pimlico (stopping at The
Globe Theater and St. Paul's). That was about a 12-hour walking day.
Granted, I wasn't sweating my ass off or working out with weights, but I was
moving.
Today is my first day back to normal life. My husband left for work this
morning, and I have a huge pile of laundry looming. I weighed myself this
morning expecting the worst...but I'm actually down one pound from my
pre-vacation weight! This is really surprising, since my bowels have not
been normal for two weeks. So, all in all, I had a lot of fun, and I didn't
take a step backwards from my weight loss goal.
We're looking forward to doing more traveling now, since the housesitter
situation from this vacation worked out so well. We don't have human
children but we have two dogs, Basenjis to be exact - they're our babies,
and Basenjis are by nature a difficult and high-maintenance breed. I've
been nervous about leaving them with a stranger, and kenneling them was out
of the question. This housesitter not only did a great job, but she is now
in love with my dogs. Can you say Paris in October? 🙂
So now I'm going back into Induction for two weeks, to ensure that any
cravings from vacation are staunched. I'll update my website in the next
few days and post a link with vacation photos.
