Wow I had a great time. I just want to say that even though I didn't hook up with Mike Dart he still helped me with quite a bit via the Internet while I was there. The place has first class DH/FR riding. Every person I met who worked on the MTBike side of things were very friendly and knowledgeable. I rode the lift and shuttle about 70 times and hit every DH/FR run on both sides of the mountain.
On my "planned" last run (even though it was my 3rd time on it) I bit it on the "Ball 'n Jack" trail and had to go the hospital and get 7 stitches in my upper lip.
RR to follow... whew I am beat and my mouth is killing me but it was well worth it.

That's gotta be the most casual reference to seven stitches ever.

The stitching thing makes me ask: Is one a weanie for wearing one of those full face helmets? Not that I score high on the cool factor anyway. It's just that my two front teeth cost me plenty of $$ and I'm not about to go through another round in the dentists chair. I was very lucky the first - and only - time I did a scorpion. Maybe not so lucky next time.

Who cares whether people think you look like a weenie? Wear what makes sense to you.
Now, he was talking about downhilling, where full face helmets are not at all uncommon. For regular cross-country stuff, I think I'd die of heat exhaustion before I had to worry about my face getting bashed in. But again, your call.

I was wearing a full faced helmet, if I hadn't I am positive that I would have broken some teeth and would really be messed up. Maybe I would have lost consciousness on the trtail too. I was wearing roach armor. The helmet and armor really worked great and did save me.
Funny thing is I didn't even want to shuttle that day but the guy gave me a free day pass for the shuttle... That made me want to "end the trip" with one more 20 minutes of no pedaling DH and grab the last shuttle of the day. So I did. Oh well I just hope it doesn't scar I am going to see a family friend who is a facial/scar surgeon (can't rememeber the correct term).
My 15 month old son is running around, I gotta catch him and put him to bed. I will post RR later.

Not only do I wear one of those full face helmets, I wear a Snell M2000 motocross rated helmet. One saved my life two weeks ago when I crashed over the bars and landed squarely on top of my head. Also the jaw piece is much stronger than bicycle rated full face helmets. Probably could've prevented Loomers split lip.

Make yourself comfortable riding. If you're willing to trade a bit of cooling for the confidence of a full face helmet, screw public opinion. Plus it gives you more real estate for helmet art.

Yeah, I've never heart myself really badly on an 'early' run. Bit like you always find the thing you lost in the last place you look for it, RIGHT?
Geeze guys, LMMFAO!
Right! ;^) You're on to the reason behind the curse of the last run. It's usually after you've been going hard all day, you're tired and reactions have slowed but your confidence is sky high from a good day riding. The desire to cap the day off with one more bit of fun usually winds up in disaster. Didn't ski patroller Penny mention once that statistics bore out that this happens mostly to 40-50 year old men?

The last time I said "LAST RUN" was at Diablo Freeride Park when we saw a guy doing the black diamonds and he wound up bashing his face into bits in a crash and I freaked out on my run and wound up doing a superman in the air over my bars and landed on my chest. My chest protector saved my ribs from being cracked to pieces and I wound up cracking the chest protector in the accident.
