  1. ICYCLESUSA EBAY FRAUD WARNING!!

A couple of months ago I bought a Truvativ 104 BCD 4-bolt chainring from
ICYCLESUSA.COM on Ebay. The damned chainring won't fit either of my 4-arm
cranksets (one is XT with an Avid Standaptor, the other is Shimano Deore).
It's obviously a defective part, incorrectly machined so it is too small to
clear the chainring bolt perches. I've never seen a chainring with this
problem - ever. The part was sold on Ebay with no warning given anywhere in
the auction listing about the fact that it won't fit standard 64/104 cranks.
In the auction it says: "it will fit cranks with a 4 bolt pattern." Well,
that is a lie. The chainring is obviously defective, unusable junk.

So, naturally, I wanted a refund or replacement, since ICYCLESUSA.COM LIED
about the item. I found that there is no way to contact ICYCLESUSA through
Ebay for a return. When you email them, you get a standard robotic autoreply
email - no human contact whatsoever, and NO way to get a refund!! I had to
scour Google Groups to find an email address and reach a human (presumably).
I sent an email, asking for a refund or replacement. I've waited several
weeks now, and have received zero response from IcyclesUSA. They appear to
be running a scam operation, with no intention of providing reasonable
service. (They offer no way to contact them for a refund through their Ebay
    account...)

There are many vendors with comparable prices, often quite a bit cheaper
than ICYCLESUSA.COM I'm glad I found out about ICYCLESUSA.COM's ripoff
tactics before I placed a larger order. Avoid them. Go elsewhere:
    PricePoint.com, JensonUSA.com, Nashbar.com, Performance.com, Supergo.com,
    etc. ANYTHING but IcyclesUSA.com.

DO NOT BUY FROM ICYCLESUSA.COM!!! THEY SELL JUNK!! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! NO
RETURNS!!! THEY LIE!! RIPOFF!! AVOID THEM!!

I've bought from them at least twice, with no trouble.
I tend to think of them as a discount / closeout shop.
Of course, the fact that David and I have had no trouble doesn't mean they
are perfect and that the O.P. doesn't have a point.

For what it's worth, they still have the item on their web site:

I've purchased numerous things from Icycles, never had a problem with
delivery. Their system is HEAVILY automated, which can lead to
    frustrating run-arounds.
Their website lists no contact number but there is a fax # and I'll
bet someone will read a gripe that comes over.
Dunno if this helps but ...
    Cheers,

Perhaps you did not email the correct place? They do have a website.

Wrong. I attempted contact via Ebay's web messaging system, and also using
the IcyclesUSA.com email address (which is not easy to locate). Both were
correct addresses. The owner is notorious for not replying. (Do a Google
search if you don't believe me.) He doesn't want to be bothered with
customer service. That would be too much like work.

    Quoted message said:

Did you read the description properely?

[rolls eyes] Nowhere did it say anything about the chainrings being
improperly machined, or of proprietary design. It said "will fit cranks
with a 4 bolt pattern." Since the only 4-bolt cranks that Truvativ has ever
made are 64/104 BCD, one would assume (unless one is an idiot) that the
description promised that the chainring in question would fit 104 BCD
cranks. It did not. That is fraud, and should be compensated. But instead
the crook that runs ICYCLESUSA.COM refuses returns for any reason, EVEN IF
    IT IS HIS FAULT!

    Quoted message said:

  10. Ah, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel. Sheesh. I hope
you've got the childish fit of pique out of your system and now you
    can be rational.

The proprietor of iCyclesUSA is Kevin. I've dealt with him several
times over the past two or three years and have gotten exactly what I
ordered. Therein lies the point: exactly what I ordered. That means
you as the customer need to do your homework before ordering. Now,
I've had good results with prompt shipping, but that doesn't mean
    everyone else might.

You've tried the obvious, I hope. Since you identify them as
"IcyclesUSA.com" you have actually looked directly at their Web site?
    Or their contact page?

    http://www.icyclesusa.com/online.htm

Or maybe you tried to see what the record was regarding past
complaints about IcyclesUSA.com through Google- there has been
    discussion here in the past.

  11. With all due respect to those who had good service from Icycles... and
despite what the rep from Icycles wrote above implying it is easy to
get into contact with there staff...

Simply go to their site and try to click on the "Contact us" links
either at the right hand top corner or at the bottom of their home
page, and wait and see what happens...

You bought a chainring without being explicitly sure what it's BCD
    is, and you're angry?

Sheesh. Might as well buy a headset that says "Fits standard bikes"
without emailing to ask if it's threaded or threadless, and if it's
    size is 1" or 1-1/8".

If this was an ebay purchase, you should have tested "ease of contact" with
"question for seller" as to your fit requirements. No answer (not my experience
with ICYCLES), or no clear information, no bid. Much easier.

Didn't someone point out the "returns" function at the ICYCLES page yesterday
    or the day before?

My one buying experience at IC went fine, FWIW.

  14. What an arrogant ass.

In the Ebay auction listing, it specifically states that NO REFUNDS will be
offered, and no refund shipping address was provided.

Your competitor on Ebay, eDiscountBike.com, has EXCELLENT customer service,
flawless packing and fast shipping. The few problems that I've encountered
with them have been resolved swiftly, and courteously. Unlike you, they are
committed to customer service, not arrogant stonewalling.

I'll be buying from the following online shops from now on:

    JensonUSA.com
    Nashbar.com
    Performance.com
    Supergo.com
    eDiscountBike.com

They know how to take care of their customers. You do not.

    Good riddance.

Truvativ has only made 4-arm chainrings with one bolt circle diameter:
64/104mm. The chainring that I purchased has the correct BCD; but it is
incorrectly machined, and does not clear the chainring perches (adjacent to
the bolts). The chainring was a defective part, but that was not mentioned
in the auction. It's the responsibility of the seller to disclose defects,
and to provide mechanisms for refund/exchange. No such disclosure was made
in the auction listing. I sent numerous emails to the seller, and received
    no replies of any kind.
