Audax alpine temperature

It's actually not futile. The cooling effect of the water is not
significantly from the initial cold splash, but rather from the
evaporation of the water (the effect is orders of magnitude more).
Just like you, I was pouring hot water on myself at every opportunity,
and it does cool you down, you just don't feel it straight away.

except that the water from my bottles on Towonga Gap in the afternoon was
so hot it was verging on the painful! (definitely hotter than my shower).

I would love to get my hands on the data for the alpine 200km route and also
for Fitz's challenge if I can look at it in an excel format for example

I can give it to you in polar's format, which is documented at the
Polar website. www.polar.fi - You'll be able to convert it pretty
easily.
